I don't see what was "wrong" about you having HHG, you could've won if you put it on his head (=87 damage).
I remember knowing who it was but dont remember exactly what I knew

I recall winning an elite against someone considered one of the best at the time, using a holy hand grenade.
Even though I hardly ever played it!

So nothing wrong with holy hand grenade. Just know how to use it.
