Kardie - I don't wish for old schoolers to come back. I wish for younger players to stay and for the next generation to come through. Those players I believe are shocked at how difficult it is to host and no secure logins. There's two things would improve player retention dramatically!

I've played ONE game in the past sort of 3 months. It was a Big RR with Oli, we tried to do a BnG after, Oli was busy so couldn't play, someone else joined. I took one shot which was a 4s LG floorbank, hit the guy, and the guy immediately quit. So that doesn't count.

I've randomly went online about 20-30 times during that time and tried hosting a Big RR or BnG. Either nobody has joined, or they joined then left the lobby after about 5 seconds.

I've just gave up, nobody is interested in the schemes I enjoy anymore and genuinely feel like we've hit the lowest point of activity the game has ever seen.

In my opinion nothing anyone play anymore is even challenging or interesting enough for me.

You've got a chance to find games fairly quickly if you like Kaos, Intermediate or playing TUS against blitzed.

Long story short, this game is pretty boring for a lot of people now.

Sorry to hear that. I find my experience opposite to you.

Then again, I never see you online anymore, it was like months ago. You hosted tons of BIG RR. I thought that was great for activity. We need more people like that.

Someone is using my name on WormNET. If you are under suspicion if you aren't with the real Kradie, then please confirm my real ID here on TUS or discord @Kradie.

Schemes I mostly play: Big RRz and Roperz.

You're telling me you find lots of Big RRs and lots of BnGs?

I do somewhat believe you find Big RR games, but to be fair you mostly play with a scheme that quite frankly just annoys me. While yes, I play with a scheme that usually you don't like either, but I've been hosting with the classic Big RR scheme and nobody joins.

Yeah I used to host a lot, the roping community is very small and I found out several players are using scripts and macros and so I didn't want to play with them anymore, and the next few weeks after that I found myself having pretty much nobody to play with at least when I was online.

Don't get me wrong, I can sit there for hours and find a few games... But if I can't go online and find a game immediately with high certainty that the players won't quit or are willing to stick around for a few games, there's no point anymore.

It's not worth it to spend 3 hours online and only 1 hour of that time you are actually playing.

I think the community needs a boast through either the next patch update or new tus league system.

I still believe the sandbox environment of worms has led to its own demise because there more and more scheme variations generated, the more divided the community became as people enjoying the same scheme style became smaller groups.

If worms only had 3 schemes like rope, bng and elite it would be way more active as you'd find a game easily in the same you enjoy.

I know people disagree with me tho and cba to debate that in length.

One thing we could do is all donate to MI so he can spend time coding the new league scheme instead of having to work loads to support his family.

I think for people in Iran these days working on a niché competitive game system is the least of their concerns but one day hopefully he can do  it.
As fo or me the biggest con of this game is that it's not optimalized for WIN11. The play is a pain, for me the game minimizes randomly sometimes during matches. Also without deleting all the xbox features and ads that i had to manually disable to even run the game somewhat properly is insane. Other ropers complain about bigger resolutions coming with some sort of input delay or the game not running smoothly especially on bigger maps e.g. in Big rr

TheKomodo

WA is optimized for Win11 for me, works perfectly fine.

Also, Chicken23, I somewhat agree with you, hence the 3 scheme TRL thing a while ago. I really enjoyed that but unfortunately wish the idea was 5 years prior so it had much better activity.

I think I'm the new tus system there will be a lot more excitement as I could search for a scheme only and also accept other schemes but opt out of playoffs for schemes im not interested in. Also we'd have 1 scheme rating and no duplicates.

MonkeyIsland also was interested in rank decay too as there are players who noob bash and then turn inactive and they don't deserve to sit at the top of the rankings.

But all of this relys on MI and they isn't fair.

Hopefully Deadcode and Cybershadow also have plans for future updates and as mentioned. I personally think secure logins, problem free hosting and some moderation of wormnet behaviour is far more important than any in game features.

Yeah that idea was pitched by me after a chat about ideal league systems M3ntal and I had.

Though it was quite a few years ago that it was pitched now.

So yeah, our idea, the system works with a filter system. Every scheme is available(but of course when we say every scheme we don't mean 99% copies of other schemes), as there are thousands of schemes and the VAAAAAAST majority are slightly altered clones of slightly altered clones.

So every scheme has it's own individual ranking, the most active ones of the season, maybe the top 3 will have their own Playoffs.

The really cool part though is you can compare yourself against others in any way you can with the "mix'n'match" league filter.

So for example there are many strategic schemes... Team17, Intermediate, Kaos, Elite, Abnormal, etc.

You can pick all 5 of the above mentioned schemes in your filter and it will show you the overall stats for the schemes you just picked.

You don't play all those, only want to see Elite & Intermediate? Then remove the others from the filter and check again!

I could compare myself in all of the schemes I enjoy, the ones I'm a top player in, the ones I suck at, any combination I want and see how I stack up against everyone else playing those schemes.

I am hoping that if and when this system is implemented, there is a complete wipe(but saved archive of course) of ALL standings on TUS with a completely fresh start.

It might encourage me to play a little bit, but you know, that's if there are other players in existence by the time it happens lol.

Just dreaming a bit: if WA had unicode (Asian languages, Russian, etc) support and built-in translation, our playerbase would explode overnight.

Remember there were hundreds of thousands of Korean Worms players back in the day. It wouldn't take many of them wanting a nostalgia trip to permanently revive WA.

Maybe there is some hacky way to accomplish some kind of Unicode support (perhaps with Wormkit and/or using 3rd party chat tools to overlay the frontend and in-game chat menus?), linked to an online translation API.  A big downside is that the unicode chat couldn't be part of the replays without more complication (companion .WAchat files?). It does seem unlikely. Maybe there's something on GitHub we can work with.

Gamepad support would be popular too.  There's a Wormkit module now, but nothing compares to having it baked in.
