Weekly TTRR Challenges
« on: August 23, 2010, 08:39 AM »
Hey guys!

I created this topic so we can share some ideas and maybe make the Challenges more active or better. Two things come into my mind:

1. Is one week enough time or should we try to double it?

2. How about the maps? The way I put the map is that I get a random number between 1 and the maximum of TUS maps and I insert that number to the ID field. If it's not RR, I keep trying until I get an RR map. Do you think we might want to have a poll or something?

Thanks, Ray!

1. One week is in my opinion enough. Although I'm leaving today and I can't participate this week but hey, I'm alright with this. :p

2. Hm, I'd like to see some more tricky maps like barman's or hakkfin's. Your technique is pretty random and some people might like that but most maps were very simple and linear so far. And also I don't know if voting would be a good solution here. Maybe just try to mix the styles? :)

I think the main point why not more players approach the challenges is that most don't have the courage to report their times if they are 10 seconds slower than the record is. I don't think more tricky maps would help there... it's just that people should report their records even if it's slow, there's no shame being 10 seconds slower than a Mablak e.g. :)

Yes, Ray wants to make RR Challenges more active but also BETTER. :) And these are my ideas.

IMO there shouldn't be any medals for individual maps, just a little mention.
There should be seasons, for example 1 season is 12 challanges, and after that the winners of season. So then I see the sense of keeping points for activity, you can still report your time, but you won't get any extra points for expired challanges.
And there still can be overall rating too ;)
what do you think about my idea?
Anyway in a month I'm starting to study, so I guess I will not have much time for playing, we will see ;)

How about offering a points incentive for people to post their times even if they're not as strong as the top 5?

or make 3 'leagues' for 5 ppl each, and best one goes to the higher league, the worst falls down to antecedent one :P (so there would must be seasons)
It would be nice idea for me, but I care it could be really inactive too ;S

EDIT: well, I add my times only if I beat at least 1 person, so there could be limit of seconds which you have to do, to get on the list, for example Nail map - 50 sec, classic emin map - 60 sec, maybe it helps? ppl see that they have beaten anything at least! xd

We already do that, people get points for just reporting already. :)

I don't see how that system would work here. Although seasons... that might be a worth to give a thought after all this.

There is an easy solution for people not having the courage to upload because it's slow - I will hide the replays.

You mean hide replays and records?? Be sure I will not add my replay anymore then, as I add records only if I have beaten anyone...

Or maybe hide the times for the first 4 days and then reveal them for the last 2 days.  That could be fun!

I am not sure if that is possible, Cue. ;o Maciej, the replays stay hidden for as long as the actual week lasts, then you can see who the fastest was. If you see your time wasn't good enough, you can try again anytime later.

How about only showing the times to people who have sent in a replay that got validated? :)
That way people who have submitted replays know which times to beat, while not scaring off people who haven't submitted anything yet
