Some new discoveries:
If you like Yann Tiersen's soundtrack for Amelie, you will certainly like this song by Nyctalgia. The part after 1:30 sounds a whole lot like Comptine d'un autre éte, but the thunder & lightning-sounds in the background and the more intimate character of the song make it IMO even better (!).

Not a big fan of slow doom-ish metal, but with enough bombastic orchestral pieces it's quite alright
