Roper Ladder?
« on: March 24, 2016, 03:59 AM »
After Biscuits post about a roper only league I've been thinking maybe we don't need a league but instead a Ladder. This would be very similar to case's ladder.

Now before I write how it would work know that this could be used for any scheme, not just roper. Also it would need some fine tuning, these are just my ideas for now.

The way the ladder would work is you would be able to play any player say 2-3 times a day(not 100% sure on how many per day yet) and as many different players as you'd like.
To move up the ladder you have to beat someone above you. if you beat someone 6 ranks above you, you move up 3 ranks and they move down 1 rank.

And not sure about this part but maybe if you beat 3-5 different people below you in one day, you rank up 1 as well

Now to stop people getting to the top and never playing again. there will be an activity requirement. Need to play a game every 3-7 days or you loose 1-2 spots(again amount of days and spots lost needs to be properly decided). Hopefully this stops people avoiding as well because if they keep avoiding people under them they will eventually run out of people to play and move down.

There will be a Hall Of Fame setup one month after the ladder has started so it is more realistic
1st - Days at top of the Ladder
2nd - Days at top of the Ladder
3rd - Days at top of the Ladder

New player start as unranked, win or lose first game and then they start at bottom of the ladder. Every game after that will decide ranks.

Please let me know your thoughts.

It's a good idea, but it's good idea #2856239 and I imagine like the rest it will be ignored.

A few things I am unsure about, moving up by beating people below you, there are people on TuS who would rather play 20-30 games vs noobs a day to move up 4-6 spots rather than doing it the proper way.

The activity requirement, I like the overall idea but don't like the way it would work, imagine someone was like 100 wins and 6 losses, which is amazing for Roper, they were #1, decided to take a break for half a year, now they are last, does that not seem stupid to you or am I mad lol? Or is there a threshold, like they can only ever be as low as the middle with inactivity?

At work gtg will post more later.

Yes I agree with not moving up by beating people below you. Defeats the purpose of the ladder really.

The activity requirement stops people from being near untouchable. If they were on top for 2 months then they will set the standard in the hall of fame with 60 days on top. The whole win loss thing won't be seen.

Also if a good roper takes a break and finds himself at the bottom, if would not take long to get back up if he can beat people in the top 10.

The ladder won't be a overall thing, it will be the top roper playing right now!

If your looking to be remembered you need to stay on top and set your record there.

I wouldn't be opposed to something like this once I start playing actively again. As is, I play maybe once a week for a few hours, and I'm tired of playing vs. noobs.

It would also be more rewarding in a less luck based scheme!

Yea I think a ttrr ladder would be good too. You could have a different ladder for a few different schemes. It's good for people who tend to stick with one scheme

For that matter, I wouldn't mind seeing a Big RR ladder. TTRR ladder I probably wouldn't play in simply because I don't like how one good turn = gg, you win. At least in roper you have several turns to use strategy and show off shot-making and dropping skills, and in Big RR it's basically the same thing as TTRR, only the winner is determined by the speed and consistency of a player over MANY turns. Besides, if anyone is good at TTRR, it stands to reason they should rock at BigRR. A Big RR ladder would get me super excited as I think it's the most enjoyable scheme there is right now, especially on a great map. No crates, no attacking... just pure rope speed and control. THAT is the test of a roper IMHO.

Maybe turn on trl again and make it rotate every 45 days (cuz 60 are way too many days) with classic league schemes? Else make your own league? I dunno, just f@#!ing around.
