Here and now I feel I should make a statement: I'm far from being a top BnG player. I don't make fancy shots in the league as a rule. Having my own idea of cheap shots, I don't usually throw 4 sec max power nades or 4 sec rollers too, though. Sometimes I can shot myself, sometimes I can hit my opponent by luck or by not the prettiest shot as well.
However, I play this scheme according to the set rules. Any result, be it a win or a loss, is okay with me

Sensei, you need to tone down on the elitism in BnG, this is TUS BnG, not a2b.

If you don't like 4s max shots, and rollers, that's fine, but you don't need to go around trying to make other GOOD people look or feel bad just because you don't like it. ESPECIALLY when they aren't breaking any rules!

The last time I asked you why you think they are lame, you said something like "because they are too easy and doesn't take any skill".

Spoiler! View

Going to go off track here but it reminds me of stuck up artists acting like saints about AI "stealing" their work and that it "takes no skill to type a few words and then the AI makes it for you".

Which is a lot of crap. If it takes "no skill or effort", try and get a newborn baby to do it.

I could go on and on about how stupid these artists are, for ignoring the fact that every single one of us are every day thieves, we steal every day without giving credit, artists "steal" techniques from people who aren't even alive anymore so it's impossible to "credit" them anyway! They constantly forget the thousands of years, and billions of humans that existed before them, that f@#!ing made everything they do NOW possible!

And then they act like they are original, or clever, or better than others when they are just another human being a normal human doing absolutely nothing special!

Oh wow, you can draw, so can everyone else if they have full control of their bodies and practised for 10000 hours!

Honestly, get a newborn baby, not even 1 day old, put it in front of your computer, load up a BnG! Hell, if the baby can even place the worm properly I'll give you £100.

The point is, while it's not very impressive, it still takes YEARS of learning basic fundamental stuff in life to even learn basic physics like gravity, power, timing, speed etc.

People never acknowledge this, it's sad.

If it was so easy then people who only use rollers would be absolutely destroying other BnG players like myself, but they don't!

From experience, it's actually bad to rely on rollers and 4s FP than having a variety of shots.

It's perfectly fine to include these shots in your shot rotation, in fact it's stupid not to as far as being competitive and winning is involved.

Also, in my opinion Rocket IS one of the top BnG players around right now. I'd say Rocket and TheWalrus are very close in skill/variety/consistency.

They are the 2 best right now.

Thanks Komo.
Actually, the source of my statement could be found at @13:12 of this game.

To the history: many years ago (like in 2009) I was watching a game between two well-known wormers, one of them was Chicken23 maybe. At some point of the game, 4 sec nades got used. And the immediate reaction was "4 sec nades are lame. You better use 5 sec lg or 3 sec nades". As a newbie, I took up this idea.
After playing BnG for years with different wormers, I only got more solid in this "4 sec is cheap" concept. If you watch through my BnG replays,  there's no trace of such shots. Ok, maybe once in every 5 games, when my opponent is hiding deep.

That's why I kinda avoid 4 sec shots. But in this particular case a normal 5 sec lg was used. It was a roller, absolutely not a sitter. It didn't need all the world's skills to execute, although I don't believe a half of today's active players could land the same one from the 1st try playing league against a good player. It takes patience, nerve and understanding of the potential danger that if you DON'T land this shot NOW, you'll be shot next. Never thought I would explain myself after a normal shot was made, damn. But here I am.

All I'm asking for is to be friendly and nice. Maybe it's my own attitude and I should change it, but I'd never tell a roper "your whole rope is a cheat cos you use scripts/2 remapped spaces", as well as I'd never mention a cheap shot even if my opponent would use one on me and repeated it for 5 times in a row without reaiming. I've won and lost against both of those types. But never made them uncomfortable with their play

To be honest, my start in BnG was similar...

It's no secret that my start in BnG was PURE notching, as in 100% calculated mathmatical shots with zero instinction whatsoever.

This was back in like 2004 or something, it wasn't until I absolutely destroyed all competition in a BnG Tournament, which at that point nobody knew I could even BnG with being known for my roping skills.

Anyway, it was a 32 player Tournament where I missed something like 3 or 4 shots in the entire event, every single game was over within 6-7 minutes.

This drew the attention of one KoreanRedDragon who I knew from SfX/Warming, and he went into great effort to school me on why "notching is lame". Anyway, that's when I decided, ok, let's see how good I can get doing it the normal way, and the rest is history lol. Point is, we are often influenced by the opinions of others, in my case, it was deserved, in your case, it is not.

In fact, I am mostly responsible for the toxic "4s is lame" thing, due to acting way worse than how Sensei is now. In fact, Sensei is being polite compared to me back then lol. Though, back then I was a fool.

It's not so much what you're doing, it's how you're doing it that was always the problem.

The reason I was so annoyed with it back then is partially because of what KRD said that stuck in my head, so I started to treat ANYONE using these shots as a bad person who should be singled out and ridiculed, and that's horrible, it had a bad effect on BnG as a whole.

As I've said before, it's perfectly fine to use rollers and full power shots.

After all, 5s LG floorbanks at full power are just as easy as 4s full power and nobody complains about them?

Or, extending your 4s FP and making it a 5s+ Trapshot, it's the same damn thing with an extra second and bouncing around lol, nobody complains about those...

I reckon it's because 4s nades and rollers were just overused, which made them boring, and generally speaking people don't like to be bored in a scheme that's already considered one of the most boring schemes ever.

BnG does kind of need variety to be exciting to anyone, and that's part of the problem whether people realize it or not.

And what you've said is exactly why rollers are fine!

Sometimes you need to use them, sometimes you miss all your other shots, and you just need to get a hit to get your confidence back, there are tons of reasons!

4s rollers are just as easy to miss, as they are to land.

Put it this way, 3s nade vs 4s rollers, 4s rollers are more difficult to master, at least for me.

Much more challenging to get a roller to take 40+ damage, than the tens of thousands of 3s nades I've thrown which dealt 40+.

Agreed!

More proof that Grenade Wars is superior to BnG ;D

Love both Rocket and Sensei, but I have to agree with Rocket on this one. The objective in a league game is to win, so there is nothing wrong with choosing the most convenient option, or anything else that might be considered lame. So:
  • Using easier shots in BnG
  • Telecow in Hyst
  • Using multiple spacebars for roping
  • Memorizing/writing down opponent's worms order in Normal/Abnormal
  • Using mostly zooks in Boom Race
  • Using rope to aim in Mine Madness
  • etc.
are all A-OK.

People may think that some "lame" strategies are ruining a scheme, but those are the inherent flaws of the scheme, not the player's.

I've never seen anyone calling anything lame in Darts, because it's such a perfect scheme ;D (although some people called the entire scheme lame )

Off topic as well, but I completely agree with you on your AI vs artists take. People use available knowledge to improve their craft, noone bats an eye. AI uses available knowledge to improve its craft, and everyone loses their mind. And some people actually think that AI is just taking images from its database and stitching them together, it's baffling.

It made creativity more accessible to creative people. They think that people who use AI lack creativity because they don't draw the pictures themselves. So what actors/actresses do is art but what directors do is not? Because for me, using AI is like being a director. Instead of being an illustrator, you sit in the director's seat and shape the whole process with your creative vision.

It also opened a lot of new doors for shitposting. ;D

More proof that Grenade Wars is superior to BnG ;D

Well, I wouldn't say that lol, Grenade Wars is so much different!

Grenade Wars is definitely more accessible and fun though to the majority, especially noobs and casuals!

BnG is aimed to the absolute masters of artillery, it's the peak artillery scheme as far as skill, accuracy and patience is concerned.

All other artillery schemes are simple compared to BnG, in the context of it being accessible and fun for newcomers and casuals.

I see BnG to Artillery the way I see TTRR/Big RR to Roping. You really need to have a passion for the mechanical skill to understand how challenging it is at the top level. To me they all look so boring when done by noobs but the most impressive thing you can do in WA when done by the best.

So:
  • Using easier shots in BnG
  • Telecow in Hyst
  • Using multiple spacebars for roping
  • Memorizing/writing down opponent's worms order in Normal/Abnormal
  • Using mostly zooks in Boom Race
  • Using rope to aim in Mine Madness
  • etc.

You forgot top hides in Roper! :D

Agreed though! People are hypocrites lol.

AI uses available knowledge to improve its craft, and everyone loses their mind. And some people actually think that AI is just taking images from its database and stitching them together, it's baffling.

Exactly!

The way I've explained it to people...

Humans are creative and need experiences to learn from and use in their creative process. We take things which already exist, transform them and combine them, to make "new" things.

Nothing is original though, it's that video "Everything is a remix" again, Copy > Transform > Combine, the basic elements of creativity.

We use our eyes, to see things, to see shapes, colours, sizes, patterns etc. We copy those things DIRECTLY, then transform and combine to create all the wonderful arts we have.

AI doesn't have eyes like us, but we do feed it data in the form of previously existing artwork so it can learn, then it takes all these sources, transforms and combines them to make "new" things, but again, it's not original!

My guess is, people are jealous, bitter, worried about their financial future etc. I can't blame them, but that's part of life.

When they invented the camera, they thought they would all lose their jobs, yet, it made the world BETTER!

Technology is constantly evolving and adapting our lives, that's why at school we don't learn just ONE thing, we learn as much as we can, so we have a broad range of skills to make a living from.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket! Duh!

Yes! Exactly!

When people complain saying "all you do is type a few words!" they are forgetting the most important, and beautiful part of the process! The imagination!

Without OUR imaginations, without OUR life experiences, we wouldn't have any idea whatsoever what to "type into the command prompt".

Just like, real artists need life experiences and imaginations so they can visualize in their heads what to draw.

Also, like everything in life, there will be those who appreciate these advances in technology and use them to make more wonderful things for people to enjoy, and those who are scared, hateful, and jealous!

I agree 100% with this. If people think these things are not interesting for the gameplay, they must add rules to a scheme, or create a different scheme to prevent this, using modules (like PX) or not.

What's up with all of you? :) It's just my personal opinion, nothing more. I am allowed to say that it sucks when, after few times being hit, player of Rocket's caliber goes down the newbie path and starts to lg 5sec nade on a worm so close from his.

I know he can do it and it's within the TUS rules. I'm also aware I can comment on it and say what I think of those kind of players. Who cares anyway, he won, I lost.. Let's move on.

TL;DR - In this specific match, Sensei was lamer.

Now, neither of them are actually lame, or noobs obviously, but gun to my head, 100/100 times I'm picking Sensei as the noobier one.

Now, the only reason I went to such effort here to show this stuff, is due to the specific quote from Sensei:

"those kind of players".

So rude and disrespectful...

Anyway:

What's up with all of you? :) It's just my personal opinion, nothing more. I am allowed to say that it sucks when, after few times being hit, player of Rocket's caliber goes down the newbie path and starts to lg 5sec nade on a worm so close from his.

Newbie path? :D

Yeah people having opinions is fine, but you're a hypocrite lol, we ALL do things in Leagues which are "easy" to do.

I mean, look at you and walrus and others who do those incredibly high wind easy zooks in Aerial from Jetpack, imo that's a noob move, but whatever, it's a good useful move if you aren't good enough at actual BnG.

I know he can do it and it's within the TUS rules. I'm also aware I can comment on it and say what I think of those kind of players. Who cares anyway, he won, I lost.. Let's move on.

"those kind of players"?

Dude, do you have any idea how horrible that sounds? You're making it out like Rocket is a cheap easy player, he's one of the best players in the game right now, better than you with more variety and skill than you, in my opinion.

Now, yeah, you might think I'm a jerk for saying this to you, but since YOU started this, I'll give MY opinion.

Ok Sensei, let's take a look at who is the noobier out of you 2 shall we? (Note, not calling you a noob, just, comparing who is "less fancy" since that matters to you).

I watched the entire match and made a record of what happened.

7x 3s nade, 5 of which missed, the other 2 were beauties! Nice there!
5x normal zooks, 3 of which missed, 1 opened a little, the other hit and opened well.
2x LG zooks, 1 of which missed the other was a beautiful open!
5x teleport.
1x girder.
1x 5s+ roller, which missed.
2x 4s LG nades, both of which missed.

Rocket got 11 damage hits and 5 digs/opens.
His damage hits were across 5 different types of shots, more if you include the difference in zook shots.
His digs/opens were across 3 different types of shots.

Sensei got 4 hits and 5 digs/opens.
His damage hits were across 2 different types of shots.
His digs/opens were across 3 different types of shots.

As you can see, Rocket has more variety when shooting.

But here's the funny thing... You throw a 5x max bounce roller and complain about his 5s LG which was BARELY roller and more of a perfectly aimed/timed LG shot!?

I didn't watch the whole match at first, sort of skipped through it so I actually thought he threw a 4s roller which isn't even a bad thing lol.

But the fact it was a 5s LG bounceback shot! Which is a much more challenging shot to pull off than most of your shots lol, including your 5x+ roller lol.

Cmon man, you're both good players but if anyone is lame here in this specific game Sensei, it's you...

Ok.

Btw, it's funny you mentioned couple of times I threw a 5s max bounce roller.. But you don't mention that I wrote in game chat I wanted 3s, immediately. I wrote it cause it was a mistake obviously.. 5s max wasn't even a good option there. If you're so convinced I did that on purpose, check mine and sock's last game, where I had easy max bounce on his last tele, but didn't do it for multiple turns.. It was a game breaking shot as well, but didn't go for it.. So it's obviously not about winning/losing for me. Just want to battle it out with player that thinks in similar way.

You're trying so hard to show me as some negative person, it's hilarious. Going through all of our shots just to write your opinion like anyone cares.. Coming to this thread to say someone is better than me!? Haha, ok. I also think you're overrated, but then again - who cares!?
Rocket said he doesn't wanna talk about the shot and then went on to write few tus pages about it.. What's up with you guys and attention seeking? Who even cares what I think of Rocket and his BnG playstyle... It's just my opinion, don't need anyone to agree.

BnG scheme needs some stricter rules for sure.. a2b rules should be applied here and games could be way better, for everyone..

Sensei is criticising Rocket for a 5s roller shot.

I've got a theory here, this is PURE SPECULATION AND OPINION!

You can look at the data and make your own minds up lol.

This is the conversation chunk between these 2 after Rocket threw a 5s LG bounceback.

[Sensei`hcp] ah cmon dude.. 5s here :D
[Sensei`hcp] oh well... all good.
[Sensei`hcp] you're hungry for wins.. good, goodf.
[icb`Rocket-a2a] I'm just playing to reast from work a bit xd
[icb`Rocket-a2a] but yeah I like winning ofc
[icb`Rocket-a2a] losing is ok too
[Sensei`hcp] ;)
[Sensei`hcp] been playing bng whole day with various players.. and that was lamest shot i've seen today.
[Sensei`hcp] is win really worth it? :D
[icb`Rocket-a2a] which shot?
[Sensei`hcp] that 5s horizontal lg... way too easy.
[Sensei`hcp] nice dig
[icb`Rocket-a2a] ah that one
[icb`Rocket-a2a] I've got my own idea of lame shots
[icb`Rocket-a2a] and that one isn't among them
[icb`Rocket-a2a] maybe with one leg
[Sensei`hcp] not lame? we were 100 pixels apart haha
[Sensei`hcp] but ok.

Now, I'm not exactly sure what Sensei means by "using 5s so close",  is he saying it's lame to use a 5s LG shot from so close? Or that it's lame to throw a roller type shot, so close?

Now, keep in mind, Sensei is the one who chose to hide so close.

Now, playing BnG so close to each other isn't very common, so throwing shots that close is generally more challenging since you get less practise. Since less practise means less muscle & visual memory when aiming and timing the power.

Anyway, he doesn't exactly specify WHY the shot is lame, he just says it's the lamest shot he's seen today.

Now, I'm SO GLAD he said "today" specifically, because let's go and take a look at what happened less than 4 hours before "the lamest shot i've seen today" happened!

https://www.tus-wa.com/leagues/game-240332/

In this game, Sensei's 2nd shot, and 3rd shot.

Oh wow, what's that? 2 rollers in a row???? Such a horizontal aim from being so close???

Surely not? Surely Sensei wouldn't do such a thing, and then say it's the lamest thing he's seen today less than 4 hours later would he?

"way too easy"

What do you think is more challenging? A 3s roller, or a 5s LG roller?

In my opinion, they are both as challenging as each other, they are pretty much the same shot, one just goes quicker than the other.

But yeah, we all know what Sensei thinks about "those kind of players".

 :D

Edit:

One more thing!

Maybe subconsiously Rocket seen Sensei throw these shots, and because Rocket doesn't go around calling players lame, he thought it's ok to use the same kind of shots?

Just a thought...

Oh and Sensei, this took me less than an hour, and it was the 2nd replay I checked... I didn't even have to go back further than 1 day LOL!

Imagine what I could find, if I checked your game history for the last year?

Komo... You're going into that weird phase of yours. It doesn't look good.
If it's gonna help - I'm lame, Rocket is way better.. You notching every single shot while being behind is heroic tactics...
Hope this settles it.

Just get some air now.
