TUS Discussion / TUS shoutbox and IM system
« on: September 05, 2012, 08:01 AM »
You've all know how to use it. Everything seems to be self-explanatory. This topic will cover things you may not know or possible feature requests.

Did you know?

  • You can disable IM system completely and never get bothered with? Profile => Look and layout
  • In each members profile there's a Send IM link which opens up his chat window.
  • If you click on a member on the shoutbox, it opens up his/her private chat window.
  • You can do /msg member_name in any chat to open up a private window for anyone you like without having to find his profile link.
  • You can use /me or /anon commands.
  • If you click on the red cross on private chat windows, that window will never pop up again and you can bring it back by /msg command or clicking on the member's name.
  • You can check all your chats via shoutbox history page?

Why my private messages get deleted?

Every few seconds TUS checks your last 100 private messages (not group messages). It means that if my chat window with darkmaul have 10 messages in it and I talk with darkone 100 messages in a row, my chats on darkmauls window disappears not deleted. Because they won't be in the latest 100 messages. This is in order to keep shoutbox smooth and fast. This won't happen in groups. Each groups gets its own latest 50 messages appearing the box.

TUS Discussion / Pending Games Concept
« on: September 03, 2012, 03:04 PM »
Pending games as you know, shows the games you need to get done. You may find many games in finished cups or old league games and you wonder why they are listed there.
The reason is that normally we'd like you to get all those games done. There's a new feature in Cups which allows you to specify a percentage for people to join. Everybody has a played games percentage. I could start a cup and set things like only people with at least 80% done games must join. This helps the cup to run faster.

For that reason, people must be allowed to improve their done games percentage even though it has been some time. Now there are people who you can't reach at all. For this, you can request a moderator to mark those games as ignored for you.

Like members, clan have a pending games too. The number you see in your profile is actually your pending games + your clan pending games. So if you recruit a new member now, he/she will see your clan pending games too.

Pending games is still in its first steps and it turned out to be a little buggy on counts. It is on my to do list. Hope this topic clears some confusions.

TUS Discussion / The return of karma
« on: September 02, 2012, 09:57 PM »
Karma is back, in a way! I can say just like the way it worked before except that it is disabled by default and if someone really wants to get bothered with it they gotta enable it themselves.

Since the majority of the community won't see karma stuff, please do not post content relating to it since it makes no sense to them.
I brought it back since you were all visiting a topic for karma. So for people who like to visit a topic about karma, they can enable it instead. Other members are safe aside.

Look into your profile 'Look and Layout' to enable karma.
Do you think you can pull enough drama with this again and I remove even user-based karma? Well let's find out :)

Leagues General / TUS Parallel Leagues
« on: September 02, 2012, 09:50 PM »
Hello,

As you saw in the home page, there's a new concept introduced along with TUS2.

For starters, just to give you a hint, this is the main concept:
A parallel league is an indirect league which you can't report directly but it works just as any other league.

The idea started when I wanted to test TUS league for classes introduced by some of our oldschoolers. The idea was that instead of having 8 schemes with classic league, we have 5 scheme classes as follows:

  • BnG/Hysteria
  • Intermediate/Elite
  • Team17/Shopper
  • WxW/Roper
  • RR

As you can see, each 2 scheme are combined together and act as one class. In order to test this way without ruining TUS Classic league I created a first 'test league' which later evolved into a parallel league. For testing this league which is called Allround league, people doesn't  have to to anything! They continue playing classic league, but this time when they report a WxW game, system also auto-reports WxW/Roper class in allround league. This was basically my way to test the credibility of this new untested league.

So then it hit me, this test league actually have a lot of advantages:

  • Great way of gathering statistics and test unstable leagues.
  • It doesn't affect main leagues' activity. If anything, it will increase their activity.
  • Parallel league has its own selection of schemes or combination of schemes. It doesn't need to alter schemes sets. For example, the Allround league borrows Intermediate from Free league without touching classic league.
  • Parallel league has its own seasons and timeline. Classic league could end, but allround would still continue to end of its season.

Are you following? Let me help you. With this system I can create SPW's 'TUS Default League' and create this league with all default schemes, maybe throw in forts there to spice it up without having to touch TUS main leagues. We can create 'TUS Racing League' and add TTRR, bungee race and parachute rate together. All parallel leagues without having to worry about the activity on main leagues.

So someone can ask for its own league in AG, for example 'TUS Default n1' or 'TUS Racing n1' and pick schemes from these leagues schemes sets. In order to avoid confusion around too many leagues, the report page is modified and league select box is removed. Instead you will something like this:

[attachment=1]

Parallel leagues have their own playoffs, medals and trophies. To avoid having too many playoffs, each parallel league has its own seasons. for example if classic league ends today, the allround parallel league could end a month later. All these info are viewable in seasons info page or in player's profile.

Back to our controversial classes, I'd added another parallel league called Allround2. This is the alternative classes suggested by some other members at the time of hair pulling and eye gouging :

  • BnG/Hysteria
  • Intermediate/Elite
  • Team17
  • Shopper/WxW
  • Roper/RR

Both these 2 leagues first seasons are set to 3 months. After that, based on their results, one of them will get deleted entirely and the other one will remain as TUS Allround league.

There is also extra point system defined for having balance between your played schemes which will be covered in their own respective thread.

Announcements / TUS v2.0 is released
« on: September 02, 2012, 06:19 PM »
Hello,

I apologize for the delay and down time you encounter. This is TUS2 you've been waiting for.
As it looks TUS is not finished yet but since we were down like 40 hours I released it and I'll continue the rest online.
There are some parts missing like themes, online language modifier or chess/mini games. I think within a month everything gets to be stabled.

TUS v2.0 plan started because of big server lags. At first it was only an optimization for database. Optimizing TUS database queries led to optimization of main TUS framework and because of that the whole system got rewritten. It is literally a total rewrite of TUS in many ways:

  • Server got moved from USA to Netherlands.
  • Hardware got improved.
  • Operating system got changed.
  • PHP and MySQL both got upgraded.
  • SMF changed to 2.0.2
  • TUS both source and HTML output got rewritten.

Previous TUS got stable through the years, since this is the same features but all rewritten, there's great chance you see bugs fly all over the place. Therefore I've created a board just for reporting bugs. Create a new topic for each bug you encounter. This is a solve board, meaning when I fix the bug your topic will be marked as solved. Having that aside, I have the latest TUS database available so that if something major happens ruining stuff, I can roll back to the beginning of TUS2. (very unlikely though)

The more you've known TUS before, the more you're gonna notice changes everywhere. Some pages like home page are not finished and just a sample how they would look like. Hopefully in the coming month everything gets to be on track again.
I'll start writing articles about new changes and work on a full upgrade list. My main concern is still a faster website free of lags.

Enjoy :)

Announcements / Preparing TUS v2.0
« on: August 24, 2012, 01:13 PM »
We're reaching the end of current TUS software which served us for almost 4 years. I can't upgrade it because TUS v2.0 is a total rewrite.
In the next few days I'll be moving/transferring/converting data to suit TUS v2.0. You may experience some problems such as seeing some features stop working or even seeing TUS goes down. I've tried my best to keep current TUS up as much as possible.

That's it, just don't freak out if you see problems. Chances are you won't face anything major :)

Leagues General / Intermediate and Classic league
« on: April 23, 2012, 03:58 PM »
Hello,

I'll be releasing a new version of leagues at the start of season #27. It won't be a completely new plan since some of you wanna marry the current system/concept. But new calculations and new formulas will be added and there will be more angles to look at players' performances.

However in the next 2 months, I'll gather modifications in schemes as well.
Back to the subject of this topic, 3 years ago Intermediate was part of Classic and after debates, 50% of the community disagreed and long story short, we removed Intermediate from Classic league. I've opened this topic to see how today's community think about Intermediate and its worthiness to be in Classic league. Personally I think Intermediate is more accepted than before.

One of the common questions about Intermediate is that it is a bo3 game and it could take a while or that Classic league is a place for bo1 schemes.

A poll is attached to see how the general opinion is about. The vote result will be considered on how we treat Intermediate in the new plan. It is NOT about more vote and winning the poll.
If you think Intermediate must be here but must be tweaked first, please post your idea. Please note that by tweak I mean general rules of league regards Intermediate, NOT changing the scheme in a major way.

So do you think Intermediate must be in Classic league?

Announcements / TEL will be disabled.

Due to constant activity drop in TEL, we've decided to disable it after the current season. Ideas about improving TEL or what to do with such cases are welcome.

Announcements / New plan for leagues
« on: April 12, 2012, 08:29 AM »
Every now and then people seem to get bored of the current league system and that's why I'm here for!

We've been experiencing 4-5 separate leagues in the past 3.5 years. This plan have worked good and have showed results. Wasn't perfect, but imo it worked. Many of you have been with this plan for long enough, so it is a good time to gather your ideas for tweaks or new plans for the leagues. (or even not touching it at all!)

Summery of current plan:

4 active leagues and 1 inactive, with completely separate ratings:
Classic League: (containing 8 schemes, the most popular ones)

  • BnG
  • Roper
  • TTRR
  • Shopper
  • Team17
  • Elite
  • WxW
  • Hysteria

Free League: (containing 19 schemes, less popular schemes)

  • Battle Race
  • Big RR/Tower
  • Boom Race
  • Bungee Race
  • Capture The Flag
  • Elemental
  • Forts
  • Golf
  • Holy War
  • Intermediate
  • Jetpack Race
  • Kaos
  • Mine madness/BnA
  • Mole Shopper
  • Parachute Race
  • Plop War
  • Pro
  • Super Sheep Race
  • Walk For Weapons

TEL, TUS Elite League, Only focusing on Elite scheme

TRL, TUS Rotated League, Focusing on one specified scheme each season voted by members.

TNL, TUS Normal League, Only focusing on Intermediate scheme, which is currently disabled due to inactivity.

Current new flawed/incomplete plan:

All leagues will be merged into one. There will be no Classic, TEL or anything. Instead, all schemes will have the opportunity to have playoffs if they get qualified by enough activity.
Each scheme receives its own season length. For example, 2 months for Elite, 3 months for Intermediate and after that system checks for the possibility of their playoffs. It is kinda like each scheme has its own league.

Since our community needs to know the best all rounders defined by certain schemes, system will pick the best 4, 8, 16 players of last seasons of all specified schemes (leagues), and set a playoffs combining of those schemes.

Pros: (will get updated more)
  • Since each scheme have the opportunity to have its own season and playoffs, certain scheme fans can focus on their own scheme and enjoy having playoffs for their own scheme. (Even for new schemes like Aerial)
Cons: (will get updated more)
  • It seems that after first seasons, people lose the motivation. When there comes a new scheme for TRL, it acts like an announcement: "New scheme!! Go go go!!" and that creates activity. With all schemes being there waiting for their PO, I guess system has the potential to get bored after few seasons.
  • A system like TRL, makes semi-fans of a scheme to participate (because there's no other scheme), this adds up to TRL activity to have possible playoffs (or does it?), with all the schemes being there, no scheme will have enough activity to have its playoffs. In other words, the activity required to have playoffs in certain scheme, will now split into small bits for each scheme and none will have the opportunity for playoffs.

Other ideas are welcome. Please think it through first and give us enough details.
I find division plans cool and interesting, but I don't support them because at this time, I think our community doesn't have enough activity to handle division plans.
There are 12 days left to new classic league. Depending how much this discussion goes, I don't think it would be possible to implement the new plan in 12 days. So a fair date would be at the end of the next classic league, probably along with the release of TUS2.

*If you like the new system, please post so that we can keep track.

Leagues Complaints / [SOLVED] KoR` clan, AlbtrauM, Devilage
« on: March 17, 2012, 09:01 PM »
I've put a suspension on clan KoR` from further clanners until:

1. kkmilo login into TUS, with the same host he used on November 2011.
2. kkmilo send me email from his email address on TUS.

kkmilo is active and playing clanners. he plays clanners with klekamp, but passes the replay to Niko0 to report while klekamp obviously knows how to report.

I expect KoR` clan to clear this up as soon as possible.

AlbtrauM, every clue is pointing at you, instead I'm getting funny images from you. You are the first suspect in this and you are suspended from every TUS game until this clears up.
Devilage, you are suspended from TUS games for 2 weeks. You made your point clogging TUS system.

Either any of you tell me what's going on and except the first suspect, I'll let go everything else, even KoR clan. (I'll cut some slack for the first if he comes forward) If myself come to a decision, then things will be different. Thanks for your great use of this website. I feel so much being appreciated.
