Promotion Project / Re: Intrucing money into the game.
« on: April 07, 2013, 07:37 PM »
Personally I left my work (IT developper) to only play poker.
Its not just gamble!

http://fr.sharkscope.com/#Player-Statistics//networks/PokerStars/players/mrGR33N13

Poker is around 40% skill, 30% "luck", and for some guy : between 10 and 20% discipline (bankroll management) & mental (tilt handling etc...).

If you have an edge on your opponent (skill, mental, management) you can only win in long term (many hands).
For poker it works, because fishes (noob) play just because they belive on the 30% of luck and are gamblers.

Whatever, if you want this to work for worms, I think the money can come only from players.
There is a bit of luck in worms (where the cr8 fall and other thing I think..)
You already play for virtual medail and to get respect from others.
Im sure you could play for money also.
The problem for worms is that its mostly a skill game. So the begginer won't bet against you all.
You have to find a way...
A system where beginner could play some beginner maybe.

Im sure there is something todo.

Maybe leagues
Maybe big tournaments (I heard about a worms tournament in paris with money)
Maybe heads up (one vs one)
Maybe challenge (Be the first to to something)
...

With my poker player community we do much "Side bet", and Im the first who asked players to play worms against me lol.

Everything is about money.

Nice graph. Do you play cash games as well?

Here a replay about the 1v1 situation in Roper. Additional info in the chatbox at the end.

Btw I meant buffer, not puffer. XD

nr there

but I think blue lost because of that failed hiding at the 4:20 turn

But that's the whole problem, the probability for red to win is a lot higher since red can hide on top (more reachable cr8s) and blue must hope for hard cr8s for red or looses no matter what happens. It makes me feel pretty helpless as blue as my actions don't really matter (even with fd, no chance) since red will have easier cr8s and doesn't need to care about hiding at all.

I've suggested a thousand times to increase fd. Can you see why? Why would blue also not hide on top? Various maps can also help with this dilemma. I think blue lost because he was retarded.

So you suggest for the blue team to hide on top so red wins even easier? Red attacked every turn and only some harder cr8s/better hides by blue would have stopped the default win. Makes no sense for blue to hide on top because of the advantage red has from the beginning.

I would rather draw, then let red team win (unless he does 37 + damage 1st turn and plays flawlessly). You are stating a problem that does not exist yet. When this problem exists, let people find a strategy against it. To discourage it, I would increase fd, so that more skill is involved then just getting the crate and placing a mine complacently on top of the worm . I would use 2 worms, perhaps 3 worms even.  I would use a map where hiding on top would not be optimal because of fd. The main problem with all schemes is that they do not evolve and have changed very very little since the beginning. For roper in particular, the one who picks the scheme should be able to modify and play the scheme however they want (notifies opponent of changes before the game) . That is how things evolve. Not by having a ridiculous popularity contest.

roper is awesome scheme as a funner, but its really unbalanced as a league scheme. Honestly if not a bunch of old school players Id like to see it remove from classic

And . . . I'm done.

wally, its not active !! lol you dont believe me?! :D

the only reason it says active in the past couple days is because every so often players get runged ranks for inactivity...

trust me, cases ladder has been dead for years, the only reason you see names on the cases ladder site to begin with is because the nerds payed for gold membership, and i dont think that supreme is the same supreme u guys are thinking of

Did I not just say that? lol

Dunno, the style contest is in essence good, but it requires too much man-power in my opinion. There needs to be some automation in place where people can reliable decide what was "better". Of course that is not really objectively possible since many have a different view what is style. But if it would be possible to measure distance, velocity and obstacles crossed there could be a scheme that requires tricks for maximum "points".

Also: If we already can have a portal gun it shouldn't be any harder to determine if a pump was a pump, a shadow a shadow etc.
unrelated, i was talking on fos boards about old worms 2 cases ladder, i looked at the standings, and look who is active:  http://www3.igl.net:81/perl/find.cgi?path=worms2&svr=cgi1&ser=39224&ladder=worms2
Thats not the german supreme right?  He cant still be worming all this time on worms2?  I know your one of the few people that probably remember supreme, kai.

Inactive . . . . simply has a membership. The top 20's of both ladders rotate between the few people who bought memberships. Not the same person.
