General discussion / Re: few words about finger roll

Dave, I think if you took a sample of opinions of the best ropers a few years ago and before, the majority of them wouldn't be okay with external programs of any kind; a lot of the NBR players for example. But I dunno if you read my post, because I'm not disagreeing, 2 spaces is legal by me. Just pointing out that Maciej simply isn't presenting the right arguments to support his views.

Seems like people start on the pole at the start of this map... maybe this map should be an exception and allow that, since I'm pretty sure it was allowed in some older contest.

But in general, it's inconsistent practice to allow starting on poles, since you never know at what pole height to stop allowing it.

Maciej, most people who would deny 2 spaces being legit aren't jealous noobs, in fact most are probably old school pros who could care less about taps. And comments like 'one space is harder to learn' aren't reasons for the legitimacy of 2 spaces, since you could also say a macro program is easier to learn.

Also, I would have to say that using any external programs, or even kbs with 2 spaces, would have been almost unanimously frowned upon not long ago. But since people like me didn't do anything to establish any kind of 'official' standard for keyboards, in leagues or otherwise, I can't say that people who adopted 2 spaces were really going against any standard ruling they could've known about. Which is the main argument I used to have, thinking 2-space users were going against community-accepted rules, but really we never made those rules ironclad in any way.

Anyway, I'm okay with saying 2 spaces is legal, though I have more respect for people who learn the harder way, on one space.

This seems like a hella difficult process. I'm just gonna ask the folks at Great Clips to shave everything down there next time I go in for a haircut.

Crash, your claim is just ridiculous, try to have a little more respect for your opponents. And dibz / smokz, you should know by now that going along with his thinking will usually mean you're wrong.

The only way there could be any evidence for this sort of thing is if the behavior happened repeatedly. If you want to accuse someone with no evidence, then you're also accepting that in the same situation, it would be alright for someone to accuse you with no evidence.

I think girders simply shouldn't exist in BnG. Because ANY girder you place will at least partially block some shot for the opponent, so there's always an ambiguous rule about how much you can enable your shot / disable your opponent's shot. Not only that, you'd have to have some dumb rule about only being able to use a girder when you have no other grenade shot available.

In this case there wasn't any reason to use a big girder over a small one, but there was no significant shot blocking going on, the worm was still quite open. The gap that was blocked really wasn't an optimal place for a shot, and I don't think I'd even consider this cheap since there's no reason I would be aiming at that gap.

But additionally BnG needs to take steps to start disregarding 'cheapness', because although the concept helps maintain a higher skill standard, it can only work in a league like a2b, it should be utterly disregarded otherwise.

I just spent a lot of time trying to get a better run on this map, got a 35.84 (2nd worm). It's really annoying, because this is one of those maps where it's difficult to see which little nuance is slowing you down.

Dibz- 79.80 or 80.90
Crash- 89.06
Mab- 85.98
Dul- 82.84

Totals: DoH 168.86 vs CKC 168.82, we won in either case. D1 already dealt with this Zippo, I think you knew that.

Why don't we try to find some times to actually commit on both sides, or we'll never play. For most of the next week I'll be online starting 20 GMT, and I can probably play in any of the schemes. Anyone else?

Cups and Tournaments General / Re: Intermediate scheme thread
« on: June 01, 2010, 10:44 PM »
Hm well it's kind of silly to say one team is winning or has an advantage simply because of their health, especially when talking about intermediate with HP reduction. Not to mention that resources and number of worms are better indicators of who is winning than health, in inter.

More difficulty in seeing who's winning and who has an advantage makes a scheme more complex in any case, as that kind of judgment is a major skill. It allows for much more variety in your game in terms of offense / defense; simply sensing that you're going to lose way ahead of time if you keep attacking allows you better preparation for SD, and likewise, sensing early on that you're on the path to winning allows you to be more aggressive / take shorter turns.

Basically HP reduction just allows for more ways to counter your opponent's plans, and makes the scheme more complex and thoughtful to me.
