Schemes / Aerial players read plz :)
May 30, 2012, 05:57 PM
Hey guys, I'm looking for input  ;) I'm trying to make version 2.0 of the scheme  ;)

We've played with the scheme for a few months now. I'd like to know if people encountered any bugs or have ideas to improve the scheme?

On the to-fix list atm is:
= Increase jetpack fuel. As Peja pointed out to me today, it CAN runout if you get a double turntime crate. Not sure how much fuel I'll give it though, infinite fuel can be confusing at first, so I'll probably just double the current one or something.
= Fix weapon probability in crates. Never paid attention to it when I first made it. Most importantly, crates % of Supersheep, Pidge and Missile need to be toned down. Air attack and napalm a little bit too.

Optional:
Weapon Ammo:
= Girders reduced to 3. 5 are a bit much IMO, they are often abused to build complete fortresses.. or worse, for blocks..
= Petrols +1 or maybe +2. (For a total of 4 or 5)
= Torches and drills +1 (for a total of 3, wouldn't hurt IMO, not really important..)
= Clusters +2 (people dont use them for abuse anyway, well not so far..., they are nice as crate destroyers and what not)
= Mortars -1 (from 5 to 4)

= Sudden Death. Sets in at 5 mins atm.. which in practice.. is never.  8)
I don't think it should be common though, Aerial doesn't really need it. You can pretty easily put pressure on a hiding player by moving closer to his side of the map.
In late SD, with waterrise, there will be hardly any room left anymore. Shots will be pretty easy.

So I'm thinking about putting SD on a time that roughly equals 30-35 mins of pure playing time. And then either without water rise and just health loss (health crates will be nice then ;O) or SLOW water rise and no nuke-health loss.

Tell me what you think  :)

TUS Discussion / ban request: mods
May 27, 2012, 11:12 AM
 ;D

It's awesome that everyone can host a cup or tourney at TUS, but some mods really make a mess of things :(

In cups they either give up after the initial draws are done or when they have been eliminated.
In tourneys it often happens that mods dont show up, leaving people to wait for an hour for a tourney that will never take place  :(

May I propose a similar rule as in playoffs? 2x no show or big fail = banned from hosting stuff?  :-[

Schemes / Schemes - TUS vs Newbs
May 24, 2012, 02:16 PM
Was looking at the HostingBuddy stats again: http://stats.worms2d.info/hbschemes.html

And yeah.. everyone already knew newbs were really only into shopper, but the numbers are quite worrisome.

Classic league schemes:
Shopper 43.7%
WxW 7.6%
TTRR 7.0%
Hysteria 4.3%
-----
BnG 0.51%
Team17 0.31%
Roper 0.27%
Elite 0.08%

More than half the games hosted on WN are shoppers or variations thereof (56,6% to be precise). But what's worrying is that all the classic worms schemes (BnG, Roper, Elite, Team17) are COMBINED hosted only 1.17% of the time. That's little more than 1 out of every 100 games. In case of Elite it's even only 1 out of 1250 games (:-X)

Basically, these schemes are only played in TUS.
No newbie plays them anymore, not ever.

The odd thing is that the most unpopular of these, Elite, has long been considered the most popular in TUS.  :-X

Actually, let's check the most popular schemes in TUS classic:
Hyst.  344 (19.44%) - 4.3%
TTRR   311 (17.57%) - 7.0%
WxW    275 (15.54%) - 7.6%
Roper  246 (13.90%) - 0.3%
Elite  212 (11.97%) - 0.1%
T17    164  (9.27%) - 0.3%
BnG    109  (6.16%) - 0.5%
Shop   109  (6.16%) -43.7%

These are the stats for this season (not the overall ones!). 1st number = games played, between brackets is the % of total and the percentage behind that is the HB-hosting percentages.

Noticable is that shopper, despite being, by overwhelming numbers, the most popular scheme on wormnet is the one least played here at TUS. On the other hand, the top three schemes in classic also perform well on wormnet (Hyst, wxw and TTRR), whereas the classic schemes (Roper, Elite, BnG, Team17) aren't played as much, but still one has to admit, far far more than in the HB-stats.

In TUS itself, veteran players are more inclined towards the classic set of schemes (duh?), while the new players (I checked this) tend to pick almost exclusively Shopper, WxW and sometimes Hyst or TTRR. (which is understandable, seeing as how the classic schemes are virtually never played outside TUS).

Other popular schemes that are popular HB-wise:
Normal 10.6%
Tower Race 8.4%
Mole Shop 3.6%
Fly Shop 2.8%
Supersheeper 2.1%
Pod Shopper 1.6%
Bow & Arrow 1.3%

I'm not sure why I got the idea to make this thread. I guess I suddenly became aware of these 'oddities'.

I like to hear what people's opinion is on these numbers.

It sure raises a lot of interesting points:
1) is there a future for the classic schemes?
2) why do schemes like wxw and shopper tend to fail when chosen as TRL schemes? Why did normal never get the place it deserves based on popularity?
3) is TUS noob-unfriendly? or do noobs simply abandon their fav schemes after getting in touch with more 'skillful'-ones?
4) there are a lot of noobs on wormnet who do not play for TUS, could something be done to get them here? Like a shopper-only league? Or would that fail?
5) does the same problem exist in other games? As in, modes played for fun being entirely different from those played for leagues?
6) I disagreed with Ropa when he said new players aren't nearly as skilled as the old generation. But yeah, it could be very true for the classic schemes.. which aren't played nearly as much anymore and thus naturally skill level drops and the amount of top players decreases by the day.
Can we do something to get more players involved or are these schemes just doomed to die out?
7) Viewing the cups that are being held right now.. it's pretty much scheme-madness there. Pretty much all are experimental schemes or free league ones. It's pretty sad that Ray has to host elite tourneys to still get people to play it and keep the spirit 'alive'. TEL is dead and Elite it seems... very close to..  :-[

So yeah people, opinions!

TUS Discussion / I appreciate it
March 17, 2012, 11:07 PM
Been enjoying TUS since the day I joined. And after all this time, I still enjoy playing for the leagues and cups, the tournaments and challenges. And there's the forum and the shoutbox too  :) (not to mention the maps and schemes database).

I can't even imagine what WA would be like without a site like this. I'm pretty sure all the nice and good players would give up on it pretty soon. I know I would  :-[

MI, and all of you admins, you're doing a great job. Same goes for all of you TUS players. There's a few bad apples, agreed, but most of you still manage to uphold the values of sportsmanship and friendship in general. I'm positive that we can succeed in overcoming the damage done to our little community by cheaters, hackers, raging noobs or simple 'dumbs'.

It's a shame that 90% of the precious time of the admins is consumed by a small group of people who, after all this time, still don't seem to get it.
I wish they would take some time to reflect on their position in this community. Perhaps that would lead them to re-consider their contribution and urge them to approach the admins and fellow players of TUS with a more positive and forgiving mindset.

Let it be known that I do not take TUS for granted, and am thankful for it every day. And I'm sure this goes for a whole lot of people here. Our voices may not be as loud as that of others, but we're definitely here!

TUS will always be in my heart. Even the times I lost important games, I was always happy to be part of the competition. Especially at times I played my best against a totally awesome opponent. The result was sometimes negative, but I was always proud when I (and my opponent) managed to deliver a great spectacle. I guess that's the feeling great athletes get as well when they are part of a 'historic' match like a world cup final or a very close formula 1 grand prix.

You can win a match by yourself, but a great game requires two players.
Through TUS, I have had the honour to meet remarkable players and astonishing individuals. And together we made it happen :)

TUS rocks. Always!

Let it be heard!

Leagues General / Add aerial to freeleague plz
February 29, 2012, 12:48 PM
What the title says  :)

I'd propose to add it to classic, but well, it would be a lil crowded (and some people would cry if BnG or WxW got kicked the f*ck out ;D).
So I'll settle for free league... and maybe for a TRL season some time  8)

It's scheme #312
https://www.tus-wa.com/schemes/scheme-312/

Cup has been a great success so far. Almost all matches in the group stage played (which is odd for a 'new' scheme) and all of them exciting to watch and close. Heck, I got terminated in first round  :(

The scheme is much more all-round than most free league schemes and the strategy and gameplay is much more diverse as well. Some people see it as an improved version of hysteria (not the bloody telecows and hiding at the bottom of the sides the whole time), but well, it's a little more than that. It's got elements of all kinds of games. Naturally, a lot revolves around the jetpack, but sometimes a normal BnG shot is more effective. Neway, you should check it for yourself.

Games are pretty short though. I tend to play them in series of 3 or more, but bo1 is also possible I guess. Unless you're playing a newb, the game will be close to the end. Even 3 or 4 worms vs 1 isn't impossible.

For sample games:
https://www.tus-wa.com/cups/cup-319/

Good players (to watch) are Uzurpator, Chelsea, ssm, Peja, Turko and me.
