Roper is pretty luck-based, but mostly it just doesn't have as high a skill cap as other schemes. In RR, elite, inter, BnG, I feel like I've always been able to improve a little bit each year, but roper just kind of stagnates. I've lost most of my interest in it since there are far better schemes out there, the only problem is that it's hard to come up with a similar enough replacement for it (if that's really necessary, which I'm not so sure about).

But I agree, we should look for alternatives. Even wxw is starting to look better to me, provided the map is difficult enough. My main beef with the scheme is that all the maps are quite simple, if we had some less linear ones that required slightly more difficult roping, it might be a viable alternative. And you could make it more roper-like as far as weaps and crates go. This discussion certainly has happened a lot though, and it probably won't lead anywhere, as usual >_o.

so basically I should stop playing the piano since there are machines and programs that can play anything?
Robots can't even come close to human piano playing skills yet.

You're seriously misunderstanding what "fun" is. If I'm having fun testing my eye-to-hand coordination with roping there's nothing you can compare with the fun you'll be having testing your ability to choose and use weapons in imaginative ways in Intermediate.
Lol, honestly, this thread is not about fun. Undoubtedly fun is the most important thing in the game, but in this discussion it stays aside.
Btw, I love roping, especially rr.

Even if it proved impossible to make a perfect strategy scheme AI, the best one you could possibly make would still lose frequently to top players. It wouldn't be able to beat them 100% of the time as a BnG or TTRR bot almost certainly would. This is because with motor skill related stuff, certain things are just insurmountable for humans, whereas with strategy, we can use heuristics to subconsciously bypass all the little things we should really be thinking about. A strategy AI's potential would be fairly limitless, but human potential is similar, if the game is simple enough. Judging a scheme's skill based on bot complexity is pointless if you don't also take into account how those bots stack up to humans ;0.

But nonetheless, I don't see how bots are relevant, it's futile to compare yourself to perfection. It really has nothing to do with how skillful a scheme is for humans.

Aye, just tell me when a good time for you is. Most days 20 GMT is fine for me, or around 5-6 GMT. And I'm free every day at the moment, since I quit my job.

Dario shows us that special weapons don't matter, he might as well have had mole ;0

The nice part about these games is that we continually turn the advantage around on each other. My SD playing was weak, but aside from that it's pretty good stuff.

Rafka, you always do this... if everyone simply waited until they were as fully prepared as possible, no one would ever get a match done. Be more respectful towards your opponent and the rest of us waiting, preparation really doesn't make that much of a difference.

General discussion / Re: Showcase Results!!!

Congrats Cue, a well-earned victory. Impressive entries all around guys, this movie is totally an achievement for all wormers. If only we could make it go viral... maybe IGN.com would be able to cover it inbetween their reviews of Halo and assorted EA crap.

Those little images Auto added for all those astro-zook shots were genius, especially that Buddha. It gives you so many ideas too, like what if they did that in-game? That's something Team17 should take note of for future 2D titles, it fits in so well and it wouldn't be super hard to do.

Something I'm glad people did was call some really complex shots! It really adds to the beauty of it to see people thinking ahead. KRD's called drowning was one of the best plops on there, though there were a lot of sweet ones. So many unusual trannies, this really covers a huge range of everything that's possible in BnG.

TdC / Re: Welcome to Ryan in TdC

Hey Ryan, we should rr sometime, maybe show some of these young'uns what it's all about. Can't believe it's been so long :V.

I should try this out. Is this scheme supposed to be played with more worms though, like 6? That seems like a necessary feature since people will now be willing to take those easy kills at the start.

Coincidentally yeah, usually most Poles don't come on until I'm asleep.

This is one of the few times I used non-LG uzi effectively, at 16:30 in round 3.

We should merge this with the other thread ae?

But yeah amazing job as always, the zoom-ins really made some parts excellent, the attention was always where it needed to be. Some of the best moves were definitely D1's homing hop and lacoste's uzi. Astoundingly, almost everyone had at least one incredible move, I think this was quite the success.

Good call on group 2 Jakka, seems like the fairest route. I hope everyone can get those games played, it's no fun when the best players don't advance :<

Holy shit dude, I'm so sorry. It can be impossible to tell if someone's really a good person until they do something heinous... I just hope that she feels like shit for doing that to an upstanding guy like yourself. That's just sickening to me, not just choosing to cheat, but also implicitly choosing to break up a newly-formed family, ugh.

I wish you the best, just get her out of your thoughts as best you can, and find some things to do that'll make you happy.

Yes, 8.5 is a bit much to me. But then again I'm used to judging on the basis of 60 second turns, and it's pretty impossible for anyone to do a perfectly wide variety of moves in 45 seconds, so things may be just a little more weighted in terms of scoring variation.

Dub and I rope pretty similarly, the only thing that might've put me higher is my using a bit more of the map and avoiding repetition. Dub went back to the middle of the map just briefly, and spiked on the inside right island 3 different times, so that small amount of repetition may have taken him down .25 to .5 points. Not very noticeable, but I suppose it makes a much bigger difference when you don't have that full 60 seconds.

I'm not sure my run is creative enough to beat KRD's, but I'll try some more later in any case ;0
