It's not uncommon :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect

Ok so basically, i've stated I love smoking, I think it's great, I don't think cigs are as bad as people make them out to be, and statistically more things kill than smokers/smoke from cigarettes, that's up to me to think that ok? (except the last one, which is actually true).

Then d1 is getting all cocky and smartass by posting what he's posted, acting all smart posting links with research that still doesn't take anything away from my opinion, he's wrong because he cannot give any evidence whatsoever that more people die from smoking/smoke related illnesses etc than anything else in our present existence.

I've already said I know smoking is "bad" because yes, it can be harmful to your body, it definately makes your breath smell like shit, but only to those who really really hate the smell of smoke, some people like it, I like it, whenever I smell someone who reeks of smoke, I gotta smoke it's that good! Whenever I see someone in a film or TV program I am watching light up a cig, guess what, I light one up to it's like, hell yeah, gimme one of those bad boys!

If you can give me 100% undeniable, and plausible proof, that smoking/2nd hand smoke, and cigarette related illnesses cause more people to die than, natural causes, accidents, other illnesses which have nothing to do with smoking/2nd hand smoke and cigarette related illnesses, pollution, natural disasters and the list goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on etc etc etc, (which you can't lol) then I swear, I will do ANYTHING you want, you name it, i'll do it.

Hate smoking all you want, but don't lie about it lol.

And lol:

Kruger and Dunning proposed that, for a given skill, incompetent people will:

  1. tend to overestimate their own level of skill;
  2. fail to recognize genuine skill in others;
  3. fail to recognize the extremity of their inadequacy;
  4. recognize and acknowledge their own previous lack of skill, if they can be trained to substantially improve.

I know I pass this thing cuz I know I can always improve at everything, always, I always compliment others and constantly notice skill and talent in others and ALWAYS advise people to never give up, I am stubborn, obviously, I will defend myself with everything in my power and when I have indeniable proof, not just a theory and some clever words put together, that I am wrong, I will accept that/admit that, and try to see where I went wrong so I can learn.

Ok but the last one, I don't get, isn't recognising and acknowledging your own previous lack of skill, and trying to train and improve that, a good thing?

What's wrong with knowing you are better than you were before? Yet still knowing you can still improve, or am I reading it wrong?

Shouldn't it be, fail to recognize and acknowledge, if they can be trained to substantially improve?

That is actually quite interesting D1 :)

I've been a chain smoker for 5 years and I enjoyed it with all of my soul!
but Komo, if anything, you're the smug one here.

D1, stop being cocky lol, it really doesn't suit you, for a person who claims to be so smart, you are acting like such a retard/dumbass right now, you should KNOW what my point is, and what I am getting at.

You just described yourself!! It's amazing how life works :)

I don't claim to be smart lol, I know i'm "streetsmart" but when it comes to having degrees and making statistical claims etc wasting time researching pointless things you don't really care about to try and win an arguement with someone you've never met, that isn't me, I say what I think, what I feel, and don't care what others.

When it comes to researching and studying etc, i'm f@#!ing dumb and proud of it lol xD

So funny how you believe in silly statistical numbers etc with your fancy medical degree lol.

It helps that those silly statistics have helped us raise the standard of medicine and is still doing so ::) If I could not work with statistics, I would not have been able to function in my job, because there's no such thing as 100% certainty in my job.
You can scoff at that, but it says more about you than about me, mate.

Ok you are right there, but as far as smoking is concerned, more people DON'T die from it, I still stick with I don't think it's as bad as all the hyped up bullshit Doctors and media make it out to be, if it was THAT bad, it WOULD be illegal.

But, your last sentence, just goes to show your ridiculous smugness cuz you don't smoke and I do, I still feel you are the one losing out living with that attitude.

From now on I ain't arguin with no Doctor about smoking, it's pointless lol.

Falling out of an airplane CAN kill, it doesn't mean it does 100%

It's not a question of whether I'm cocky or not. It's just a matter of laughing at something ridiculous. Saying smoking isn't all that bad when it's the single most important risk factor in the three leading causes of death (cardiovascular disease, cancer, COPD) is just so silly. And you say it with such certainty, too. I just can't help myself!

Risk factor lol, exactly RISK!!!!

It isn't a certainty is it? No, exactly, so shutup ya smug git :P

So funny how you believe in silly statistical numbers etc with your fancy medical degree lol.

Like I said in the PM, you are a Doctor, of COURSE you are gonna see alot of people dying from smoke related issues, but, note you don't take into account, the millions, no, billions of people who die with NOTHING to do with smoking.

Case closed.

Smoking CAN kill, it doesn't mean it does 100%

It's contradicting that there are some people who live for 90 years and smoke through 70 of those and we al know that smoking kills. :)

How is that contradicting? If anything it's luck/or their body has strong immunity towards those deseases?

Teach my how to control my anger towards failing in TTRR and I might actually become a great RR'r lol...

Seriously i've never been so angry in my life as when I try these challenges and CAN'T EVEN FINISH ONE WORM!!!

Yes, that's a little contradicting, afaik the oldest man in the world had smoked until he was 90-something... I think that's an example of positive mutation - though I really can't explain it. I'm suffocating when anyone's smoking in my 5m area, so maybe I'm a little biased...

Sorry I don't get this, what did I say that was contradicting?

I don't mind if you hate smoking really, I respect that, I wouldn't smoke in front of you out of respect, i'd like, walk round the corner or out your house or something, have a cig, go toilet wash my mouth out spray some deoderant before coming back to you...

This is true: My great Gran died at 92 years old, she had been smoking since she was 16(legally), although the family knew she started a few years before this cuz of the war and all that. From the age of 40 onwards, she smoked at least 60 a day, I swear I am telling the truth.

She died of natural causes and everyone who lived around her had no health issues/problems or even coughed(due to smoke), even my little cousin didn't have issues with the 2nd hand smoke and she was only 6-7 when we gathered round for Xmas.

But, saying that, we are used to everyone smoking around us here, it doesn't bother us, but, for someone who lives generally most of their life nowhere near smoke, I can see how it's bothersome, and I can see how growing up without a strong influence for smoking as I did unlike me* why you would be so against it.

I am 100% serious when I say this, if I couldn't smoke, due to MY choice and it wasn't MY choice*, I wouldn't want to live anymore.

D1, stop being cocky lol, it really doesn't suit you, for a person who claims to be so smart, you are acting like such a retard/dumbass right now, you should KNOW what my point is, and what I am getting at.

Also D1, I know, and I just don't care, and I don't mind you or CMV saying the stuff you are saying against smoking, each to their own, we will all die anyway.

*I edited the parts I wrote wrong there, said it wrong way round lol.

...all those legends about second-hand smoking, that it gives you cancer and makes your life shorter is BULLSHIT!
You believe in what you want... But after having analysed in a laboratory what a cigarette contains, and having seen its effects on animals, I do believe what I'm saying.
And again, the atmosphere does not make those toxins disappear. But... whatever, just smoke it.

1st, we are not animals, and 2nd, different peoples bodies can handle different things, some people are even rare enough to be allergic to inhaling smoke, seriously.

Comparing what humans can handle and animals, just isn't accurate and specific enough for humans, plus the fact most peoples body chemistry is different to others.

Go look it up, Komo :)
Ray, I held back! That's why I just went with "ROFL". I just can't help myself whenever someone says "it's not so bad".

Also, gosh!

But D1, you are a Doctor lol, and apparently you really really don't like smoking.

I don't care about "health" and all that, as long as you do what you can in life to enjoy it and be nice to others, and I ain't giving up smoking to "possibly" life an extra 5-10 years.

I know ALOT of facts about smoking and how "bad" it is, but it is only "bad" if you "think" it's "bad", the "bad" things about smoke, to me, is nothing compared to more important things in life, and other, much more harmless things.

In fact, the ONLY bad thing about smoking imo, is the f@#!ing price :'(

Oh gosh stop it. ;D I'm simply trying to quit smoking, not trying to start a mass debate about smoking. CMV, chill man! I hate those people who endlessly bitch about smokers, be a man and inhale it, all those legends about second-hand smoking, that it gives you cancer and makes your life shorter is BULLSHIT! It's just as likely as a meteor hitting you in the face.

Some things CAN accelerate tumour growth or make it more likely, but the chances of these are so minimal. Either be a man or ask the person smoking next to you politely to go 3 meters away. But don't be bitching like a 90-year-old!

Well said :) +1

Smoking isn't as bad as people make it out to be, yes it can kill, but so many things can kill, smoking doesn't hurt people as much as literally millions of other unexplained mysterious "accidents" and natural ways of life does, to me it's a luxury I am glad and thankful to have.

Alright, I'm gonna have to go with "ROFL" here.

How many people die from smoke(cigarettes)? How many people die from every other single thing possible, I laugh at you my friend ;)

What I meant was, mysterious accidents like, freek accidents and things people science or religion just can't explain.
