Sad to see it from someone that was born or lives in Recife. Recife is one of the oldest cities of Brazil and most people there are truly aware about the reality of the past. It seems that your knowledge in history is not that deep to make a comment like this.

By the way, I'm not sure about the English language, but in the Brazilian Portuguese we now use the word "escravizado (enslaved)" instead of "escravo (slave)". It's a bit strange because it breaks a bit the language's logic, but it is more respectful and makes people comprehend better that the people were put in that condition by other people and definitely not a situation that they were born naturally with.
