Back in the old days...

we still used passwords when hosting a game for our friends.  :)

Since a few years (well, since a decade) it's gone out of fashion and people just host public games and boot everyone that isn't welcome (poor newbs).

As much as it's convenient, it's also pretty harmful for the community (I wouldn't be happy getting booted all the damn time as a new player) and for the host it can be equally frustrating kicking all these dämn Russians  :-[.

After me and Crazy had another encounter friday (the newb said: well then, put a pass!!; and me and Bard were like: hmm, that's kinda true), we discussed an idea I had some time ago.

The idea is this: from now on we host our TUS games with a password. Not a long pw, just 'tus' (not caps). Everyone in TUS will know this PW, all the noobs that will only get themselves booted won't.

It's 3 letters to type for host and joining players and, on average, 3 mouse clicks less to click cause of booting players. It levels out nicely.
No more angry newblets and since everyone knows the pass, people can still join TUS games if they wanna spectate the match.

I wasn't sure about posting it the first time around cause I know you're all lazy douches and anything beyond entering your team is an effort (edit, or 5 teams in case of Husk), but yeah, in principle the energy spent entering a 3-letter pass equals that of cleaning the room of nübies.

Thoughts? Yay or nay?

I usually wait until my opponent joins the game, close the game instantly, explain the situation to the rest of the players, remove their teams, if they don't understand, that's the only time I kick them.

I have a macro to type "Hey, sorry, it's a private game, TUS league. Visit www.tus-wa.com!" :D

Chicken23

i like this  ;D

about 10% of the time i normally explain its a private league game... but the other 90% they get booted.

Those that do find out the password over time will know that its for a league and may encourage them to find tus-wa.com and start learning league schemes!

HHC, if your worried about the damage booting newbs will do to the community, imagine the damage locking them out of our games all together???

sometimes when a newb learns that its a "clan match" they may wanna watch.. or be curious how to be a part of it... etc...

locking them out is a horrible idea rlly...

taking the few extra seconds to explain them the situation, and link them here is much better.

Actually I agree with this. Well, it's not such a dramatic issue to lock them out, but...

If you know you would just boot them, set a password, that is okay. But if you know you are going to explain the situation, then don't set a password. :)

How often does that really happen though?

I had it once, or twice (ever).

Not many people do that though. We're not all Ray  :o

There's a lot of TUS any1's going around in ag. That should be more than enough to bring TUS under their attention.

You'd be surprised how many players do this...

'league'
'watch only'

that's just about what I say every time, and some do actually stay to watch. most leave though. no one ever seems to ask further about the league. I'd say 70% leave themself, 25% get booted, and 5% stay watching. and of those who do stay to watch, they don't say much if anything, but that's also probably because I don't always say much of my own ;p

I don't let the noobs watch my tus or clanners.  i boot the shit out of them.
