Description:
You have 2 weeks to get the best time (from 03.08.2012 to 17.08.2012).
The rules are very basic, place your worm at the bottom, and finish by hitting the ceiling of the map.
Use as many worms as u like and put /rs (if you want /rs, that is).

If you climb very efficiently you should be able to climb faster than 1% of the map per second, leaving you with a time less than 100 seconds.
hF on the map, and enjoy the colors as you fall down after hitting the ceiling. ;)
The times are posted like this (x)xx.xx, e.g. 123.45.

eyy Free, what if instead the overall timecount, the targets would matter in the count? targets that you hit with the shotgun, there is a counter in the lower left corner while you are doing this training mission.

Yeah I was wondering which one to go for but I think it would be pretty much the same, right?

Anyways I decided to go with longest time.

I was able to get 1:09:43 back in 2004, but is that submittable? This time I only got up to 57:47.

This training stage benefits from strategy, so perhaps the replays should have been hidden. I'm surprised Mablak didn't use this strategy; he'd probably go way past 1 hour if he did. I posted my 1:09:43 run back in 2004, but I guess nobody watched it?

Edit: Oh! Mablak did use the strategy. It's just that he waited until 32 seconds in to do it. (And Free used the main part of the strategy, too, starting at 22 seconds.)

Edit 2: I am glad the replays aren't hidden. It's more fun this way.

Sure you can submit this 1:09:43

Very impressive.

KRD was gonna submit his record. With that record I think you scared him off. At this point it's safe to say that everybody is scared off. It is not a challenge about shotgun accuracy anymore. It's endurance challenge now :)

Due to massive misunderstandings: MonkeyIsland refers to an island not a monkey. I would be a monkey, if my name was IslandMonkey meaning a monkey who is or lives on an island. MonkeyIsland is an island which is related to monkeys. Also there's been a legend around saying MonkeyIsland is a game. So please, think of me as an island or a game.

i admire the focus, nice job, do you get time credit for the targets that fall in water, or no?  Something was aesthetically pleasing about deadcode's triangle of land he created.  I was thinking of some sort of infinite loop scenario.

Thanks! And no, you get no credit for drowned targets. If you did, I could have kept going until I was completely exhausted... as it was, I was pretty fatigued at the end.

I would list the most important strategies being
  • Don't use the initial apex of the map as your home; use the car's fender. Requires some setup. (This could probably be improved further from what I did, requiring more elaborate setup. In particular, a setup that gives you a tinier speck to stand on would allow being less nerve-wracked about avoiding shooting yourself in the foot.)
  • When shooting at targets on land, aim as high as you can, and if you miss, tap downward as minimally as you can (ideally 1/50 second) until you hit it. In the long run, this lets you keep going longer, because you won't be destroying as much land below the targets, which eventually results in drowning targets.
  • If you remember where the target will be next, hit the spacebar before it appears, to compensate for the delay of the cocking of the shotgun.

Also, please don't be scared off from submitting. It can still be a battle for 3rd place if you don't want to go heavy on the endurance.

Fun fact, Mablak has spent longer shooting these targets than it took him to speedrun all single player missions.

i feel like time trial to X targets would've been better, to reward accuracy or sth
