No, not quite. There's a little more tutorials and stuff but it's still not easy for i.e. LoL players to get into.

Husk

it's big alright, but not biggest =)

Anubis

Depends on what you refer as biggest. Biggest in price money, in people watching, in people participating etc. xD

darKz

> 2.8 million dollars prize pool for a single event, that's why it's the biggest.

Less than 2 months left for The International 2014 to kick in.

Tickets for live event at Key Arena in Seattle were sold out in under 10min.

Looks like it speeded up again. With this tempo and still so much time until the event, soon it will be bigger than UEFA Euro League and most likely the FedEx Cup. Quite possible to beat even The World Series and Superbowl as Compedium started to fund prize pool just 19 days ago, raising it by over 6,000,000 as of today. The hype.

what superbowl?
MonkeyIsland, my friend, I know your english is terrible and your understanding of society limited. However, in real life, people attack and humiliate others without the use of a single bad word. They even go to war with lengthy politeness. You can't base the whole moderation philosophy of a community based on the use of bad words and your struggle with sarcasm and irony. My attack to Jonno was fully justified and of proper good taste.

The Super Bowl, a typo. Anyway, the latest two were probably first place prize pools due to Forbes, so nevermind. Golf got beaten, though.

Easily the tournament with the biggest prize pool ever. I'm so hyped for this shit. :D Especially after my trip to ESL One 10 days ago, to Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt, home stadium of Eintracht Frankfurt. It was huge (12.500+ attendees per day) and a lot of fun. Got to meet ChuaN, Dendi and some more. Will definitely visit again if there will be a second edition in Frankfurt.

I wish e-sports was in a point where this was a fair comparison. It isn't.

Dishing out 6 millions to the winner might seem like a lot of money. It's a lot of money. But it's nothing in comparison to what the Super bowl or any major golf tournament nets its participants.

For one, they're under TV rights, earning these "teams", something in the ranges of 10 to 200 millions a year just for being there.

Dont forget where esports was 5 years ago, Volvo and Riot did incredible job pushing it forward. TV, however, each and every year is less and less attractive, but that doesnt mean broadcasting channels arent interested in it (Sweden, Korea, China, recently Germany with ESL One). Also the main thing is old fart's mentality; new generation will see esports in a different light, as most of them are/were gamers just like us. Its still very risky to be a pro player today, but it will change. On the other hand, conventional sports have this advantage of being "immortal", while games die within a couple of years; ARTS games (DotA/Dota 2, as of right now) and CS/CS:GO, though, have proven having long lives and keep getting more and more popular, but without a good developer with vision and will to constantly improve, doing things right, games will sadly keep dying and get replaced by new titles.
