Japanese Worms

Well, as you may know, Worms is inactive. We can fix this by releasing it in Japan. Maybe basing it on 4.0, and releasing it on the same day as 4.0, will work.
Imagine What a Buck Could Do!

I now declare a brand new league (and the successor to the failed Ultra League): WormsRF!

Considering the fact that you're in #ag 24/7.. you should sometimes take a look on that channel.
WormNET is full of new ppl every day. And plenty of old schoolers are doing comebacks to play on competitive level.

It already exists (though with its servers defunct), has had up to 20000 concurrent online players combined with Korea and China (in the early 2000s), and I worked on reverse-engineering its network protocol for some time last year. I reimplemented the initial part of the server (there are multiple layers of servers) but otherwise hasn't continued the project. Though, I converted the frontend graphics from the KSF format, so you can see what the menus looked like (naked, no filled elements): https://imgur.com/a/MH81G
(you can find some in-game screenshots on the internet, but it's mostly Worms 2 with some UI adjustments, not as extensive as WWP Aqua)

Dec 30 2013 23:59:44 <StepS> windowed mode isn't the only thing you need about frontend
Dec 30 2013 23:59:49 <StepS> you need it to be actually bigger
Dec 31 2013 00:00:13 <StepS> it actually is very small on my 15-inch full HD screen
Dec 31 2013 00:00:25 <StepS> while running at 640x480 or stretched mode makes it fuzzy
Dec 31 2013 00:00:44 <StepS> this problem has been around since the Worms Armageddon's release and no one has even tried to beat it

This is a good idea. I think it will happen naturally when unicode support is implemented in 4.0. Just like we got a huge rush of Russians when cyrillic became supported.

Japanese/Korean/Chinese worms were great and very active. WA would get a ton more players if the game was more Asian-friendly.

Combine it with a Google Translate wormkit module, and everyone can communicate in perfect Chinglish together :D

Even if it were released with native Japanese support, I doubt that we would see a huge influx of Japanese gamers. W:A is getting really old, guys. I know I don't have to tell anyone this, but as a Japanese person, would you be tempted to play a nearly 20 year old PC game that has little to no following in Japan, the mecca of gaming?

I think that we would have more luck bringing in South Korean and Chinese players, personally. India would also be huge, I think. Even if we did add language support though, how would these people be made aware of it? It's not like updates for old-ass computer games are trending stories on Facebook, lol.

This is called reviving - something that is really old is getting updates. Everyone would go nuts, cuz they wouldn't think that such of an old title will still get attention.

I think that you overestimate how much the general public gives a crap about Worms.

Even if we did see this mythical 4.0 patch come to be, how would anyone hear about it? It's not like Team17 is going to advertise for it. How many of you know Chinese or Korean?
