The problem isn't hiding on top, the problem is the amount of RNG in Roper with crate distance from the worm every turn
Normally in ZaR there is no feet on an Island making the RNG more concentrated. This is why IMO that it is less luck based.

Also what exactly is the problem with ''Incredible players lose because they got unreachable crates than their opponent''? That's almost like saying ''Incredible players lose because their opponent got Armageddon / better weapons''. I know this statement was for roper exclusively but I just wanted to make this comparison. Perhaps that these schemes IMO are more fun for some people because of the RNG elements. Of course I sympathize with the fact that better players can lose as a result of RNG because I guess it can be aggravating. But wasn't there somebody that said (mostly in relation to T17 Island) that at least this setup could give beginners an easier time? To create hope?

This also makes me wonder if hypothetically Roper and its variation never existed until recently: Would it be accepted as a league scheme?

That's 100% spot on, it is like saying incredible players loser because their opponents got better weapons in Team17. It happens all the time, it's why I will never enjoy Team17 as a player.

I remember HHC saying some years ago, he enjoys Roper because of the luck factor. Also yes, there are those who believe RNG is an important aspect of competitive gaming.

I on the other hand personally believe any competitive event worth it's salt should be as skill based as possible, elimitating luck entirely if possible.

Unfortunately when I made the recently Artillery Cup, I forgot to update the Aerial scheme to eliminate crate drops, it was too late by then so had to roll with it. If there is a next time, there won't be crates.

If opponent is hiding on top, just pile with it?

This is what I mean by starter having too big of an advantage then if top hiding becomes normalised, you can't pile because the starter will in theory make every cr8 (except on very hard maps) and if you pile as 2nd player you literally lost in theory if all cr8s are made.

The biggest problem is that how boring roper would become then, imagine.

True.
But only thing I would do is to keep piling on top until that opponent gets hard crate, then I can backfire the same tactic on that opponent.

Any map where that's actually possible, isn't even worth playing in the first place, I think.

Piling someone who has significant HP lead when they hide at the top would actually make it way easier for them.

Haha I lived long enough to see people problematize classic Roper again, now with mediocre quantity of players... There were much better roper variations like W2 Roper / W2 Roper  with x2 worms, with no rules, improved FD and gravity.
Even Senator's balanced roper scheme was better but noone couldnt care that much to change it or keep playing it. I remember we had an experimental season for that.
