Leagues General / Re: Automated Playoffs PM
March 25, 2011, 03:27 PM
I think he does something like that already? At least I got one when CF was in Clan playoffs in December I think.
Doesn't take much time either afaik, type the message and then just send it to everyone, that's easily doable within the PM options.

I don't think the goal of a new league should be to attract old players that left the game, they left the game because they got bored of it/busy in life. No league will change that, that's a false assumption in my opinion. When we have a BnG league people like Dw33b, al2cane etc. come back? Doubt so. ;)

If it's up to me, all schemes deserve their own league so people can purely decide on their taste what they want to play, to play competitive TTRR you will have to play BnG/Elite etc. because people can/will pick it against you. So yeah, I am for a wide variety of leagues instead of this one allround league.

I just had a dream about you René, haha. We were visiting a festival with Chris, Zak and most of your dudes were also there, I think I "saw" Phil, but can't remember everyone in the tent. So then we got to the stage and one band was playing, we were right at the front and then we both said finally something as good as Scar Symmetry. XD I can't remember the band that we saw there but it seemed to be Dark Tranquility (makes sense since I saw them a couple of months ago) and they were kickass live. Btw, the festival was NOT in Germany, we met people from France and Holland. Pretty crazy stuff...

So yeah, just wanted to share that haha. xD

And in terms of cheap play, there is also an actual 'lame' strategy to win TTRR/RR games, it's called pole extensions to move up all walls, most short horizontal parts

That's my view.

This has to be a level. No one could actually believe this lol

reading his whole text, it makes sense if you just understand that he's trying to compare all aspects of bng with TTRR.. so naturally he chose the "safe extending" in racing to compare to the "safe bouncers" in bng. they're considered "cheap" in bng due to silly honor codes created in past years, but no such code was created for TTRR probably because it doesn't make as much sense. I don't think Anubis really thinks it's lame to extend.. or if I'm wrong, he can say so.

Thanks for clearing out the point, that's what I tried to say with the safe/lame example of both schemes. :)

Note: I don't want to insult anyone here nor do I want to continue this off-topic. (In my opinion it's not that off-topic, but yeah)

I just want to point out some things.

First of all: In essence they are totally different, but also totally the same!

Here's why.

In TTRR you only have 3 chances to win the game, in BnG you have INFINITE chances to win the game.
To compare TTRR and BnG you either would need to have only 3 turns in BnG or set the amount of HP to 50 or at least make 16 tries on a TTRR game (both teams use 2 Teams of 8 worms for example). TTRR is a contest, you have 3 turns, make the best of it, BnG is a lot more tactics (in TuS, a2b is a different story since there are no normal conditions applied), taking advantage of the terrain (lower angle shots for less f@#! ups while still avoiding sitters).
And in terms of cheap play, there is also an actual 'lame' strategy to win TTRR/RR games, it's called pole extensions to move up all walls, most short horizontal parts it's comparable to those low angle shots that bounce a bit before exploding NEAR your enemy, sure you won't get 40+ hits all the time, but you will hit more often, just like you will get to finish most of the time with pole/rope extensions roping in TTRR. The skilled player can move faster but can also f@#! up more often. Mablak CAN lose vs. a worse TTRR player if Mablak goes for the best roping he has, Komodo CAN lose vs. a worse BnG player (in TuS League) if Komodo goes for his best shots while the other player goes for the 'lame' (I would call them safe) shots.

So in my opinion both schemes are skillful and both have it's value, and yeah both even have cheap play available.

Why do you wonder TTRR challenges have better times than actually live games on W:A Tus? Why are there almost always never best times uploaded from replays other than offline? People rope better when they have infinite tries, it's just the difference that in BnG you either have so called good shots (LG, Zook, Bank shots) or so called lame shots (low angle with bounce to enemy) In RR you can chose if you want to play safe or fast and more risky without risking your good name. Both LOOK equally nice, but in essence it's the same.

Just the community made up big walls for BnG about nice/cheap play while in RR noone complains to Mablak if he wins a map with 45 seconds instead of 39 what he usually can. But everyone would complain to Komodo if he chooses to play safe.

That's my view.

Edit: And one more thing that I forgot to add:

What would you say if you win a BnG match because of one awesome shot? And after that you never hit again. It would suck!
What would you say if you win a TTRR game with 3 not so good turns while your opponent made the map's fastest time at that given time? It would suck!

Their mechanic is different. TTRR is just about one turn, BnG is still losable even after 2-3 awesome turns. If you do an awesome turn in TTRR you are safe while you are not in BnG.

So if you want to compare them take into consideration that 1 turn can make you win RR while BnG takes 10-12 good turns and the opponent has an option to interrupt your awesome shots with moving your worm. In TTRR your opponent has no direct impact on you, just that if you know your opponent has xy time you have to move faster than that. It's a mental thing. :)

Well, I suppose as a welcome back present I will play some games with René once he has Internet. Just give me a PM/MSG/MSN shout when you wanna play René.

And HHC, as long as the people stick around the forums they are still part of the game in my opinion. I do miss many people that stopped posting altogether, like ropa for example, benz, Deano (though he does post sometimes) etc.

glad to see you're so excited about restarting W:A though, I can't help but feel we've lost another generation in the past few weeks  :(

Care to explain? Just curious to read what you are referring to. :)

And wb René. :D

oh, it's sad that there are cheaters around us in worms world and mostly ppl don't care about it :(

A few years ago I spent a long time really caring about cheaters and I ended up getting frustrated.  After a great deal of time, effort and some arguments too, I decided to not bother caring anymore.

But dude, I was upset by the people slowing down their processor! Xspeed etc.  That is what I consider cheating.  Slowing down the processor by even 0.5% would make roping considerably easier and perhaps detection could be avoided.  This autohotkey and tap speed stuff is just a load of shit.  It doesn't even improve roping performance.  At all.

The roping isn't smooth or consistent.  It's just a mess of taps and fail.

Don't worry about it until it threatens you in some way.

:<

With xSpeed or any other application similar to it you do not reduce the operation speed of your processor, nor do you speed up your processor by setting it to faster than 'normal'. (It's not like your 3ghz CPU will operate only with 2,7ghz when you set xSpeed to 90% of usual speed) It simply modifies the way at which speed Windows/Programs are operating, so the processor will work more to make windows/programs go slower/faster.

And about these Autohotkey Scripts: Sure they are itself pretty useless, (since they don't allow alteration of speed) but I can assure you that, if you know how to use them you can enhance your roping a lot, it's very possible that the replay in question is an autohotkey script shadow, by the look of it, it looks like one. But then again, I learned that with proper modding(not just paper under the spacebar it won't even make it close to what is possible), spacebar and human timing is a pretty reliable source for extremely fast and rapid taps. If I had to make a decision I would call that an autohotkey shadow since I doubt many people know the modding I have developed over the past 10 years.

It's pretty hard to talk about this topic since I do not want any crucial info leaked for someone taking advantage of this. It's like if I were to make a guide to notching every shot possible. (Yea even those bankshots, LG Zook etc. all of them are notchable) BnG is just math and logic, since BnG is a very static game, if it were realtime it wouldn't be possible. It's a bit like chess, a good player knows the moves many turns ahead, you can simply predict everything if you know how. (And of course if you chose to) :)

but dudes, I see you still don't download the replays, just devote 2 minutes to check it, those are 2 shadows found randomly by me (my replay is quite old, I found it by serching replays for showcase)
open them in normal speed in times I have written, the speed of the shadows is similar, and now open them again but keep pressing 's' key, do you see the difference? clearly cheat

just spend those 2 f@#!ing minutes guys pls! xD

I'm waiting for your comments about those shadows, because this topic is about them ;)

I watched both replays, and I can say that the speed is easily doable even with an unmodified space bar, I just woke up, and roped with completely cold hands while eating my breakfast on my non modified spacebar keyboard for typing and such.

And a little tip, if you really wanna know if someone uses some kind of cheat ask them to tap against a wall, macros are usable easily detectable through that since they use a ALWAYS constant interval of xxms. Just let someone with fast shadow tap against a wall, you will see what I mean, a macro won't tap like that against the wall.

You need comctl32.ocx in your system32 folder, and VB runtimes package installed. If it doesn't work beyond this, that is certainly weird. :)

Edit: Just made a quick search on my old HDD and I guess that are the required Files to run Annelids Programs. Put them into the system32 folder. You can easily get VB Runtimes via the Microsoft Download Center or google it.

Hope that helps.

Leagues Complaints / Re: Game 58638
March 07, 2011, 04:24 PM
I don't really interrupt complaints when it's none of my business but I would like to say that I agree with Nail/Komo/D1. It's not really a question about if D1 is experienced in Hyst and certainly not a question about his career in Worms as a player since the violation of this rule is nothing scheme specific, it's a scheme that has been used with wrong settings and was handled right by Nail by offering a RM immediately. It is hard to believe that you didn't read what Nail was saying or that you didn't understand him. Look at nino he used to be like a caveman only knowing minimal words and is still most famous zilian of all time. xD

It would be cool to see you both in real life bitching at each other, I would certainly pay for that, or some kind of comedy TV show. Like you both talk about various things that happen around the world and you just both disagree in eternity. =D
