I've approved this though, though i've changed the time for signups due to what you've wrote and have a question for you.

You've wrote the tournament is for the day after tomorrow 08/11/2021 at 8pm GMT, it's better to have the signups right before the Tournament is due to start, so i've changed the signups time to tomorrow at 8pm GMT. That way players can start signing up 30 minutes before the Tournament starts.

Generally speaking, we don't open signups much longer than right before the Tournament is due to begin as this can cause players to signup and forget or maybe they have something in their life they must attend to and they forget to leave.

So, you've wrote:

Quote from: GABO1000And is All  vs all, not 1 vs 1 :D .

How exactly is this going to work?

The format for Tournaments are players signup either alone, or in teams, then once there are enough players, you end the signups by pairing the players, and the Tournament begins.

If you intend to create a Free For All match with multiple players, this would not work in a TUS Tournament format.

Albus mentioned that he broke the special weapon rule, so he should lose that round.

I've came to check these replays however only one replay is here, the other one seems corrupt?

What happened to the other replay?

Lmfao, although I don't enjoy playing Mole Shopper personally, you have to admit that scheme has some incredible maps, I love this!

We can all learn from this that I suck at Big RR logic...

I deliberately started playing safer after getting a gain on blitzed because I thought my lead on Aladdin being bigger than Aladdins lead on oldsock was enough to win.

What an idiot lmao! Great game though, I enjoyed that!

Signups for the 80hp Cup are now open!

About "players cannot refuse to have their game streamed and are not allowed to watch the streaming of the match they are playing"

This is really aimed at the Knockout stage, for the group stage I wouldn't worry so much about it, potentially you could have multiple players playing at the same time, or they simply bump into each other online.

The games that are absolutely crucial to organize and stream though are from the Quarter-Finals onwards, those games must be organized in advance. I'd like to stream as many others as possible during the group stage though nothing bad will happen if you just go ahead and play it, we encourage activity!

Hello :)

I've went through all the old inactive Cups which were still open, then closed or finished them by progressing the players who were last active and making the effort to finish their games.

As some of you may be aware, there is a limit to the number of public Cups that can be open at any given time, now that the vast majority of old inactive Cups have been finished, there is now more room for people to host their own Cup!

Please read more about Cups and how they work if you intend to host one as there are some restrictions meaning some Cups will be rejected - https://www.tus-wa.com/cups/basic-info/

Good luck & Have fun!

Gaming Central / Valve - Steam Deck

Valve - Steam Deck

Valve recently announced their latest project - Steam Deck.

As a fan of handheld devices that have the freedom of installing various apps and software on, i'm excited about this.

I've sourced the majority of this information from PC GAMER and IGN who released the first video on YouTube.

First, let's look at a few pictures to observe it's design and layout.

SPECS:

Let's dive right in to the good stuff.

  • CPU: AMD Zen 2 4c/8t, 2.4-3.5GHz (up to 448 GFlops FP32)
  • GPU: 8 RDNA 2 CUs, 1.0-1.6GHz (up to 1.6 TFlops FP32)
  • RAM: 16 GB DDR5
  • Storage: 64GB, 256GB, 512GB versions; expandable with MicroSD cards
  • Display: 7" diagonal, 1280x800 (16:10), 60Hz LCD touchscreen

  • Controls: Two analog sticks with capacitive touch, D-pad, face buttons, analog triggers, bumpers, assignable grip buttons, "view" and "menu" buttons, gyro
  • Trackpads: There's two of them, and Valve says that they have "55% better latency compared to Steam Controller."
  • Wireless connectivity: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • Wired connectivity: USB-C with DisplayPort 1.4 Alt-mode support; up to 8K @60Hz or 4K @120Hz, USB 3.2 Gen 2
  • Battery: 40Whr, "2-8 hours of gameplay"
  • Size: 11.7" x 4.6" x 1.8" (298mm x 117mm x 49mm)
  • Weight: Approximately 1.47 lbs (669 grams)

PRICE:

There are 3 versions, with the only differences being storage space and type

  • $399 / £349 for the 64GB version - SSD
  • $529 / £459 for the 256GB version - NVMe
  • $649 / £569 for the 512GB version - NVMe

All versions are expandable with a MicroSD card(sold seperately).

RELEASE:

The Steam Deck will begin shipping in December 2021.

You can't preorder one yet, but starting Friday, July 16 at 10 am Pacific, you can reserve a Steam Deck if you put down a $5 deposit, and Valve will let you know when it's available to order. If you put down a deposit, the $5 will go toward the cost of the Steam Deck if you do decide to order one.

"When inventory is available, customers will be notified in the order reservations were made to make their purchase," says Valve.

Steam Deck will start shipping in December to the US, UK, Canada and the European Union. For other regions, units won't ship until 2022.

DOCK:

There's also a dock, but it's sold separately.

Like the Switch, there's a dock for the Steam Deck that will allow you to connect it to your TV or a monitor. The USB-C dock will provide DisplayPort and HDMI output, an Ethernet adapter, and three USB inputs.

The dock doesn't come with the Steam Deck, it's sold separately, though Valve hasn't yet revealed how much the dock will cost or when it'll be available to order.

PERFORMANCE:

This device was tested by staff at IGN so far and has had great feedback for performance, in the IGN video on YouTube.

They have been directly partnering with AMD for development, the specs put this device in the ballpark of the PS4 and Xbox One or even better, that is an incredibly powerful handheld device!

Quote from: IGN Video"It is able to handle current generation games at medium to high settings at smooth framerates. While I wasn't able to run benchmark tests during my hands on time, I played Death Stranding, Doom Eternal, Control, and several others, all of which looked great and played smoothly."

The Steam Deck runs a custom version of Steam OS that gives you a console like experience on the surface, though it's a full blown PC under the hood and users are free to customize it however they feel, they can even install a different OS if they desire. This is a boss move!

All of Steams features, like cloud saves are fully functional, this means you can start playing a game on your PC, save it and quit, then load up and continue playing portably on your Steam Deck. You can also suspend games indefinitely on the Steam Deck itself, similar to how the Nintendo Switch works.

While the Steam Deck is designed as a portable device, it's fully functional as a desktop PC. Using a USB-C dock, you can connect it to a monitor, keyboard, mouse, ethernet and whatever other peripherals you want.

I'm sure you can think of other possible uses for this device with the freedom it offers.

CONCERNS:

So, the main issue with this device is the battery life, and entirely depends on how you intend to use the device.

Valve developer Pierre-Loup Griffais told IGN: "It's about 2-8 hours, depending on what you're doing. You can play Portal 2 for four hours on this thing. If you limit it to 30 fps, you're going to be playing for 5-6 hours."

That is not a long time for serious gaming, not to mention more demanding games and powerful apps running will drain the battery at a considerably faster pace.

This will could be an issue for people who are looking for a handheld PC/Gaming device to take away from an electrical outlet for the day.

Personally speaking, I hope they can improve the battery life before release, it is not easy to justify paying up to £569 for a device that only lasts 2-4 at maximum load.

Although, for casual gamers who enjoy a few hours here and there, it would be perfect! Especially for families who have kids and regularly make trips that last a few hours.

Sorry i've been busy today and missed this, reschedule it and I will approve it.

Edit:

Throsti - Remember to advertise your Tournament on WormNET and any other social platform you can think of, perhaps some of the Discord channels. This way people will know about the Tournament in advance and can plan to participate. You are more likely to meet the minimum requirement of participants(6) this way.

I'll monitor the Tournament on my second computer while it's running in the case you need any assistance.

Interesting timing, I just finished watching through Red Dwarf again yesterday!

Leagues General / A new type of League request
June 17, 2021, 10:03 AM
Please read all this, this type of League will benefit everyone, every type of player there is.

So at this point, it's awesome to see TFL become active again, and for a moment I almost thought about playing, then realized how much some of the schemes there frustrate and bore me, preventing me from actually taking part.

In TUS Allround, out of the 11 schemes i'd only ever pick 8 to play, i'd completely avoid Intermediate and Team17, and although i'd never pick Shopper i'd accept playing it, because of this, there's no point in me playing as it's considered avoiding.

In TUS Free League, out of the 20 schemes available, i'd only ever pick 10, i'd avoid 9, i'd accept playing opponents pick with 1. Yet again, there's no point me playing this as it would be avoiding.

How many people don't participate in Leagues because the selection of schemes do not support the schemes they actually enjoy playing?

Why do we have play like this? Wouldn't it be better if we are free to play whatever we enjoy playing?

Last year while WR and WL were merging to create a new League(which ultimately failed), M3ntal and I were discussing creating a League of our own which would solve this problem of people avoiding certain schemes. M3ntal came up with this idea:

There is no "Allround", "TEL", "Free League", "Classic League", "Rotated League".

Instead, every single scheme that is uploaded in the database will have it's own Standings page, and yes, that includes all variations of the scheme.

So now people can focus on only the schemes THEY like to play.

Now here's the best part of M3ntals idea which I absolutely loved.

Instead of having "Allround" and "Free" etc, the website will have it's own filters for showing collections of schemes.

So say you want to see who is the best at Kaos, you can select just Kaos. If you want to see who is the best at Kaos, Sheep Racer, BnG, Intermediate and Darts, you can select those 5 schemes and TUS will match all those individual schemes to show you an allround rating for those schemes you just selected.

People can choose to play only the schemes they enjoy, and choose to view an absolute all round for everything that exists, as well as a mixture of any and all schemes they wish to view together. This way each individual player can see how they stack up against every other player in those schemes they enjoy playing. This would be a huge incentive for any competitive player!

So you don't have to enjoy all the same schemes as everyone else, yet everyone can see how they stack up against everyone else in their preferred schemes!

There would be pre-curated filter sets for the most popular schemes so you wouldn't have to, for example, manually select everyone's variations on a rope race to get a general standing of rope race type schemes. There might even be an option to request your new scheme gets added to one of these filter sets when you upload it, and a moderator could approve that.

Quite frankly, it's the best idea i've ever heard for a League, however ultimately M3ntal became very busy in life again, and I started doing CWT stuff so we didn't bother.

Please, PLEASE, consider making this a reality with the new version of TUS you are working on MonkeyIsland, it's much better than the system we already have!

Leagues General / No TFL Standings?
June 17, 2021, 09:49 AM
There doesn't seem to be an active TFL Standings page, at least i'm not able to find it in the Leagues>Allround/TRL drop down menu, or anywhere else up there.

The $30 from the previous week will be put towards an 80hp Cup we are planning to host in the near future, so the Tournament prize is back down to $10!

MAKE SURE TO READ THE RULES OF THE SCHEME IN THE TOURNAMENT DESCRIPTION OR DOWN BELOW - THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!

WA version 3.8 or higher is required

  • WA version 3.8 or higher is required
  • Best-of-three games using open-open-cave-cave sequence. 1vs1 games with 8 worms in each team
  • Sign ups start on June, Sunday 13th, 15:00GMT and close at 16:00 GMT. All games should be played that same day
  • Read the scheme description and watch this video for very important information about the scheme
  • Each round you can choose only one type of special/team weapon to use:  pigeons (x2), sheep launcher (x1), aqua-sheep (x1), holy hand grenade (x1), flamethrower (x1), cows (x2) or old woman (x1). Moles do not count as special weapon. In different rounds you can use different special weapons. If in one round you use more than one type of special weapon, you lose the round. For example, you can use 2 cows on round 1 and 2 pigeons on round two, but you cannot use cows and pigeons on round 1
  • Komito will be streaming some of the matches, players cannot refuse to have their game streamed and are not allowed to watch the streaming of the match they are playing
  • There will be a $10 prize for the winner. Will be paid via PayPal only, if you cannot accept PayPal or are too young to receive the money, you can choose to donate it elsewhere
  • You can check the recorded stream from the previous tournament to learn more about the scheme

I won't reply to a thread that specific person made up in their own private forum so i'll voice my opinion here, I want people to see the truth, not a subjective agenda:

zar / roper are of equal difficulty. I could use other words to explain the differences but not difficult.

Once you reach a certain level of skill they are both straight forward and simple schemes to understand and play.

1st off, the physics are exactly the same in both.

zar has more risk, because you will lose your turn in most cases where you fall, but it is also a lot simpler to learn and master. There are less weapons so you only have to learn and master 1 weapon, there is no parachute so you don't have to worry about a lot of potential knocks(where parachute would save you).

They are both as "difficult" as each other because the physics are exactly the same, the only way zar would be more difficult is if there was less momentum in the gravity/air resistance.

Another thing which makes zar simpler is the fact the terrain is destructable, which over time makes attacking and collecting crates a lot less time consuming which effectively gives you more confidence to successfully finish your turn.

You will learn how to rope faster by playing normal roper simply because of the time saved by having that safety net, in zar, the more you fall, the less time you are in the air, the more time you must wait between turns, so you get less practise.

This makes ZaR more time consuming to learn how to rope, but not harder, it takes more patience to rope in zar.

The major downside to roper, is when played on extremely complex maps, it's literally humanly impossible to reach crates and attack. On both schemes the further away a crate is the more challenging it is to collect and attack, however in zar roper over time the land opens up making it less challenging to traverse the entire map.

Both schemes have their ups and downs.

Trying to claim zar is harder is purely subjective and biased.

This should look ridiculous on the home page and satisfy my stupid sense of humour and curiosity.

Saw this interesting video about a new technique the tetris community discovered this year:and

Instantly, I compared it to the different roping techniques we're all seen over the history of Worms Armageddon. It's a shame, if only they had saw Maciej's famous FR video many years ago:

:D
