Hi guys! I've made this map. !WIP! http://wmdb.org/32015 It's 24000x16000. 16 colors. 1096kb.

-To load it, I first go to level editor and load it, only to get a "OUT OF MEMORY" window popping.
-Ctrl alt del, kill WA, reboot the game, go back to multiplayer.
-The map is there waiting for you. With PX disabled on 3.6.31 AND 3.7 3.7.2.1 Steam alike will finally load the game (and map) properly on that second attempt only.

Turn PX on and there's a fatal error after loading (yes px works with other fairly-big-but-smaller maps). This game mode needs px to work.

SO

1- Is there a possible "fix"?
2- If you'd like, download this map, test it and tell me your results please? THIS COULD BE HAZARDOUS crash and lag wise
3- How big can a map really be? Is there a max resolution for W:A maps other than indicated? (meaning, for example, a very wide but very low map would work, but not a very tall and very wide map)

Thx!  ;D

  • the width and height of a map must be divisible by 8;
  • a cavern map may now be up to 32512 pixels wide and 32600 pixels tall;
  • an island is limited to being 28408 pixels wide and 30552 pixels tall;
  • the minimum map size is 640×32 pixels.

Thanks but I checked that info first. The map plays fine on second attempt, after first getting a "out of memory" crashing the game. What part of my computer can't handle the loading?

Maybe RAM. Open Task Manager and close everything you dont need now, especially browser. Second - make sure WA is allowed to use only one CPU core.

Allowing WA only on one cpu is a tweak I wasnt aware of, tho it didn't change a thing here :( . I've elected to make the map smaller. It loads fine at 20000x14000. Crashed only once.

So I'd consider my issue "solved", did the one obvious thing, reduced map size. Ahhh well :) Thx for the help!

In advanced settings slide the "map memory warning" option all the way to the right.
