100-200 darts maps out there, kinda lame to use only 10-15 of them (round stage/ko's/finals) and give ppl chance to practise it.
1st off, make sure to state "imo", don't try to pass this off as a fact because it's definitely not true as a fact.
2nd, realizing it's an opinion, WHY is it lame? Please elaborate, don't just say "it's lame" without explaining why, because that IS lame.
Now onto my opinion:
This is a Cup to be the winners, I have no problem with people joining "just for fun", but if they are playing just for fun, keep in mind this is a competitive League so don't start giving your opinion on how it should be run when points/standings are involved.
Now, in the spirit of competition using map picker turns this more into a fun event for people who don't care about the scheme rather than a skilled competitive event for enthusiasts.
If you want to play Darts "just for fun", then go and host one with the luck based / poorly designed maps, or just go and meet some friends and play some unofficial games and enjoy that instead, please don't ruin the potential of skill that can exist in Darts.
Now for facts:
You cannot compare Darts to something like TTRR/Roper, because it's completely different, in TTRR once you know how to rope you can use that for any map because all maps are essentially the same, while Darts maps are so incredibly different you can be awesome at 10% of them and suck at the rest, for this reason using the picker for this event is a poor choice for an official competitive event in a League.
Posting the maps a few weeks in advance gives everyone an equal chance, because if you play to win, you all have an equal chance to practise, if you play for fun, you don't have to practise so what's the problem anyway because you obviously don't care about winning?
And this is probably the most important fact, PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS:
Anyone who hasn't played Darts has a chance to learn the map and it's unique rules so they don't waste time when the actual Cup begins, it's more practical for someone to learn the rules and style of 5 maps than it is to try and learn all 100+ possible picks, which is why picker should be kept for practise/funners/dS Tours.
One other thing, IF for some silly reason you decide to make it mandatory to use picker, you should also make it mandatory to give all players the option to have some practise shots before each game begins, just like in real Darts
