I'm glad I gave up online poker long time ago, atleast what cash-game concerns. The frustration, ah what a relief it is not be there anymore! I was never good enough, so I gave up. Expensive hobby to learn ;P Nice hand tho SPW, really interesting situation! Nowadays I only play some guaranteed tournaments when my mood is up for it, quite often with the consumation of a bottle of wine or a few beers alongside as well :P

Good analyse. :)

Do you miss online poker walrus? Heard a lot of americans moved to canadonk or south america just to keep playing online poker. Its weird you cant play it anymore in the states.
no, i used to grind it out online for a living, playing 2 or 3 hands at once for 10-12 hours a day.  i dont know of another job that made me quite as thoroughly miserable as that one did.  i only play for fun now with friends for little $, i never go to the casino anymore.  if i want to gamble, i hit the sports books.  I don't spend all day doing that.  poker is more fun when its a hobby, id be miserable as a pro.  money was great though.

Uh, yo, it just so happen this how Y2JID thing started
Flip two aces and get two face cards
It happens, chip stackin'
I turn around, see a bunch of chicks clappin'
But a girl walked by, caught my eye
So I said, 'What the f@#!, stand here and give me luck'
And she whispered in my ear
A purple one on there and put a pink one on there

 If you can invest 10 hours a day and win money playing poker you shouldn't be miserable. you need big picture algorithms:

with your capital and win rate you should have enough info to give you your ideal min bet tables to go on, this is your income per second, more win rate/more capital = higher min bets. You can also probably come up with the maximun amount of time playing poker per day  before becoming miserable. Providing you're a good enough player you can tweak those values in order to create a proper schedule that allows you to win money and be happy, which might even include plenty of free days a week.

You then compare that to your actual or potential "regular" job and then see what's more rentable to both your wallet and your happiness.

MonkeyIsland, my friend, I know your english is terrible and your understanding of society limited. However, in real life, people attack and humiliate others without the use of a single bad word. They even go to war with lengthy politeness. You can't base the whole moderation philosophy of a community based on the use of bad words and your struggle with sarcasm and irony. My attack to Jonno was fully justified and of proper good taste.

You are missing the point.  Poker just wasn't fun as a job for me.  I could shovel shit with a reasonable conversion rate of shit to shovel capacity with an expected shit output that made it worth my while, but I would still be shoveling shit.  Poker is fun for me again now that I'm not doing it all day everyday.

I learned one important thing playing poker, no matter cards, pedophiles always win. Ye, I call it like that, coz usually when I spend all day to play some big tourney with over 5k ppl in, and then when i have good position,  I get cards like AA or KK, play all in before river, and some idiot with random cards like 28 pwn me coz he play it and get  triple of 2 or smt like that.  I could not say a word if it happens once twice, or even 100 times, it is poker, all is possible I know.. But wtf if it happens in every f@#!ing tourney?  Should I not play AA or KK ?  Luck is the most important in poker, there is no "skill", of course there is some tactic, cards u play and u fold, but still without luck u will never win.  The f@#!ing gambling is so interesting.. Ppl usually gambling coz at start of their gambling they won some moneys and believed in their luck, same was with me in poker. First 2 tourneys I played, i won... yes, both of them.. It was my beginning at poker, I played before but just for fun, so when I won that 2 tourneys (it was about 5k euro), I continued playing, of course  same tactic etc.. and what?? from years I did not win ANY tourney, i barelly can remember if I even get for payd places..  And now I am about 10 000 euro on MINUS..  As I wish I could loose that first 2 tourneys at beginning..

you mean like any other job in the world?

because I don't enjoy office work even when I'm not doing it everyday

kinslayer: you're a victim of selective memory, I suggest you start recording every game to avoid false analysis and to actually improve. You should by no means be playing that sort of money you mention without getting these basics or even assuming the principle of statistics. Everything in your plan is wrong. 10k euros playing massive tournaments with randoms? That's already wrong from step one. You either lower your capital, or start playing 100s tables with  people that don't, like you put it "gamble". xd

Kins, I am sure you are on the right spot. Youre not alone, most of players are losing money. So I dont agree with your luck theory. Its a matter of sample-size. Send me your stats and I can show your leaks. By the way kins, you were right with "doesnt matter which hand you have", at poker you play your opponent! So his stats shows you how to play and when you cant fold KK or AA to the right time, its only your fault. Besides, the sample-size will with you cause you cant lose more fights with Aces against 82.

I feel the same like walrus. I couldnt play more than 2 sessions a day, its hard mental-wise. If you fail decisions, you got to pay. So for me poker is just for fun, now and then and sometimes in the casino to beat some austrian donks.  :D

Sounds like you aren't a very good poker player.  Stop getting it all in with AA and KK.  Just because you are getting it all in with better hand doesn't mean you are playing a sound tournament strategy.  Honestly, I'd quit and play for fun.  You had a good run of cards at the start, and now you are regressing to the mean of the losing gambler.

I'd advise you to get a new job then.  I have a job I like to come into every day.

I'd advise you to get a new job then.  I have a job I like to come into every day.

Well that's a great advice I guess  ???

Playing cards online, from the comfort of your sofa is still a better job than most jobs in the world I like assume.

So when the topic pops up in the internet and you always read about people dropping off a life of living off poker due to boredom and for a better job, whilst I acknowledge the possibility of them getting a job that doesn't bore them off even after daily repetition, I usually prefer to believe that if they were making money in the realm of 300k-500k a year they'd still be playing cards online.

I'm pretty certain not many taxi chofers like their jobs... but F1 racers? Still driving a car both of them.

I tend to make my profit off poker stars very slowly but its safe how I do it.

I play TURBO $1.50 18 player NL Holdem.
1st = $9.52 2nd = $7.12 3rd = $4.75 4th = $2.37

The quickest ive won this was approx 45mins,
Longest Game 1hour 30mins.

My win ratio here is atleast 1st - 4th , 1 in every 3 games.
I have never lost more then 3 games in a row and not made to a paying position.

so my worst case senario is only loosing under $5 after about 2 hours of playing.
but my margin for profit is alot greater as I only need to win once to make my money back and profit..

and if Im infront after a few wins I play this same TURBO 18player NL holdem but I play the $3.50 version.

1st=$22, 2nd=$17.06 3rd = $11.37 4th $5.68

or the $7 version

1st = $46.44 2nd = $34.83 3rd = $23.22 4th = $11.61

but I generaly dont play the $3.50 or $7 version Unless I have made a profit from the $1.50 version.

My Balance goes up and down alot doing this, but its slow to win but also slow to loose, A $10 deposit can be enough to last me over 1 month.

you did all in with AK with 2 cards remaining and your opponent gave you all the reasons in the world to think he also had an A

you had the better hand, but played it awfully wrong. You got excited and you paid. If you played slower and with more reasonable bets you would have realized he had the J before the last card and you would have been able to fold.

someone already told you not to play to your cards, but this is one of the best examples of someone playing to his own hand. You're as much of a gambler as the "randoms".
