Yeh you tell em free, why oh why do people still carry the opinion that a wormer who started playing before another wormer is better than the wormer who started later?
-.- trash talk.

I dont doubt that he's a skilled player (if you say so), but I hate it when oldschoolers idolise older players to the extent where they believe they are gods and no other player will ever reach the same level, BULLSHIT!

So he had a plan did he? Put it into action did he? Isnt that the point of a turn based strategy? To have a plan and put it into action?

There are more skilled elite players now than there were "back in the day".

Indeed. Some of our oldschoolers just can't let go of their old sweet times.
Still you can see around this: "It will be never like good old times again".

I bet many of those super legends with the highest possible skill level will be beat easily if they start to play now.

I guess we always forget to compare them in their own time period, not of all times.

Due to massive misunderstandings: MonkeyIsland refers to an island not a monkey. I would be a monkey, if my name was IslandMonkey meaning a monkey who is or lives on an island. MonkeyIsland is an island which is related to monkeys. Also there's been a legend around saying MonkeyIsland is a game. So please, think of me as an island or a game.

That's not what I'm saying, au contraire I've often said I like it better on wormnet now than ever before.

No... one of the main reasons why I'm still around now is that the skill level is pretty even among the top players. I took a break mostly because there wasn't a single chance I'd win a tourney anymore. There were always like 3 totally unbeatable players in every scheme.. in RR, in Rope, in Elite and even in T17 I needed a whole lot of luck to make it to semi finals.

Nowadays there are no true specialists anymore. However, people are generally better overall, they are more all-round. Previously the best Elite'ers were pretty noob at rope and vice versa. Now everyone plays everything, at a decent skill level too. I like that much better than the huge inequality in skill level of the period when I left.
During the time of Gigaliga, there were players who played over 250 games of Elite in a single month. Naturally these guys were better at it than players now. Same for the RR-scene during RR-kit. It's not a shame to be second to these guys. A balanced competition is far more important IMO.

I can only speak on roper. I'd consider myself a noob in elite. Ropers in general are nowhere close to the level people were on even 6 years ago. As long as the running league models is to play a bunch of schemes I don't think the gap will ever close. This game is at a different era now where you have to be good at all schemes and it takes away from the skill people can achieve on singular schemes.

So of course ropers "back in the day" are way more skilled then ropers now. Considering the dominant league game being played was roper, this should be common sense.

In old days there were only few who could do ropers without mistakes and be very consistent about it - it was a big deal. Nowadays it's pretty common to play full roper without a single fall or big mistake.

And when it comes to HHC's opinion: I'm sure that top eliters in older days wouldn't be anything special nowadays, they would be easily beatable.

It's just my opinion naturally, but until someone actually proves me wrong, I'm gonna stick to my opinion.

I think you have miss-remembered.

Ok, so what do you base your opinion to? If people could rope without mistakes back then, and do it today, what's there to compare?

Well that's not even an "valid" argument. If we were to compare just "my experience" vs "your experience" without valid arguments - well then it becomes just a big pile of random bullshit.

Hi there, nakra!

I suggest the oldschool vs newschool discussion is continued in a seperate thread and flaming is continued on messengers or through personal messages. Agreed?
