Basically this proposed Wormkit module would translate pre-game lobby and in-game chat on the fly. I don't think I've seen it suggested anywhere. Would it be hard to make? Yandex Translate has a free API for small projects like this.

Chat text is already written to the replay and chat log in real-time as it happens. The translator module could easily extract that chat, and translate each line on Yandex.

To address possible inefficiencies, the module could communicate with itself on a very basic level. The module should detect if more than one player has the translation module, and designate one player to be the translator for that game. The designated translator will be told (or detect) each player's specified native language(s), and whisper them translations on the fly. That way, in a game with 5 English players and one Russian, those 5 players won't be all hammering the Yandex service at once for the same translation.

There could be a predefined list of common words/terms, so things like "ns" and "lol" didn't get sent to Yandex, and the translation was just pulled from a database.

Bilingual players could specify more than one language, to opt out of receiving unnecessary translations. You could toggle whether to see translations for things you say or not. You could choose to disable translation for certain players, similar to the mute function.

We don't have Unicode support yet for Asian players, but at least all the Russian, Portuguese, Polish, etc players would finally be able to understand each other. Since players would (by necessity) see both the original and the translated text, this module would actually help people learn other languages. It would be great to be able to communicate more effectively with people, and would really help keep WA alive IMO.

I'd be surprised if the required code for a lot of this isn't already available as open-source somewhere. If not, anyone who decided to code this would be able to reuse the main parts for other projects. It'd make a good "learner" project for a new programmer too.

Just looked into it. Google actually costs money - $20 per 1 million characters translated.

Yandex Translate API appears to be free however.

This is a good idea. I think it will happen naturally when unicode support is implemented in 4.0. Just like we got a huge rush of Russians when cyrillic became supported.

Japanese/Korean/Chinese worms were great and very active. WA would get a ton more players if the game was more Asian-friendly.

Combine it with a Google Translate wormkit module, and everyone can communicate in perfect Chinglish together :D

Awesome that you're including replay files right from the start.

Chat features?
/anon whisper
/ me personal
/msg PLAYER
/color or /team whisper team

-Allow including spectators in team chat (host can assign them a color)
-Select/copy/paste support
-URLs clickable
-Google translate built-in? (for distant future..)

-Scribble mode (players can draw on/around the map to explain strategy to each other, predict trajectory ('call' their shots), etc.)

CS commented recently that it is still being worked on. There is an update planned for some time this year IIRC. Just be patient. CS and DC are geniuses when it comes to WA - they are definitely the best people for the job. I mean, just look at this replay. That is the kind of precision and quality that is going into these updates.

WA is in it for the long haul. People will still be playing it 10 or 15 years from now. Now that it's 2016, the "will not be ready this decade" statement actually sounds pretty good. Given that there will be incremental updates before it drops.

What features are you most excited about?

On first reading I thought you'd lost your maps and redrawn each one from scratch, and I believed it, coming from you! But that would be a lot of maps to redo, even for an insane person. Lots of memories in this here pack. Basically learned to rope race on lexrrp14.bit, 15 years ago.

Swing is just what the newschool autotap wxw players decided to call it! The term joeflex was around since they were in diapers  :)

Your trick at 1:09 is a joeflex.  8)

Followed by a nice inflex at 1:14.

The two tricks weren't connected so I don't see why it's anything new.

Wow.. nice one! I would never have thought to do that.

The one in the OP is kinda expected. I'm a little surprised the left worm slides like that and drowns. But I don't play elite..

The three gifs in lacoste's post just had me wtf'ing all over the place.

Other WTF mechanics are pushing a worm with an animal, and pushing yourself with a grenade in mid-air. Just made some replays to demonstrate..

Not sure how this ties into April 1st!

Hmm.. I usually have my phone next to the keyboard. Thanks for the info.

Have you tried the K800? I'd prefer wireless. Do you think any wireless keyboard can be good for roping? I'm concerned about input lag. My current bluetooth keyboard/mouse all-in-one sucks so badly it's not even fun playing simple schemes like Team 17.

I'd donate if other people were donating too. Since my donation alone won't make a difference, but together with lots of donations, they could get lots of money.

We won't ever get them to say "give us X and we'll speed up 4.0". WA 4.0 is a spare time project and they can't commit more time than they have. But people would give more if there's a Kickstarter. The whole mentality of matching other people's donations and stuff comes into play. The Kickstarter goal could simply be something like "raise $5000 for Cybershadow and Deadcode to show appreciation". Any ideas what could be used as rewards?
