Scheme description:

The concept of Drive for Weapons or DFW is a combination of Driver and Walk for Weapons. It is a race in which each player has 2 worms and it has to use only 1 of these (Driver) to go driving the other (Stoned) throughout the circuit (just like Driver scheme) but this time the indestructible maps are filled with weapon sprites on the floor due to the mandatory rule of only using a weapon if the worm being controlled is adjacent to a sprite of that weapon (just like Walk for Weapons). The scheme was based on Boom for Weapons.

Challenge rules:

Play with two worms (same team), using the map provided here and the DFW scheme available on this page. Why not Time-Trial? Mainly because the utilities would last forever and the map was designed for 30 seconds turn time.

  • Place one worm at the ''Driver'' worm start and the other worm at the ''Stoned'' worm start (inside the Skunk Chamber).
  • The second worm is like a "ball". It cannot be controled. Only the driver worm is able to move the stoned worm (attacking it).
  • You can only use a weapon or utility if the driver worm is touching an area bounded to the weapon sprite. Sometimes the area is highlighted and determined, other times there are signs very close to an area, obvious enough to understand that the weapon should be used from that place. Teleport to teleport.
  • To finish the challenge, first it is necessary to leave the Stoned worm on the hospital roof, then the Driver worm needs to go home, plop Stoned twice in a row using Petrols, and then Driver must plop itself twice on the GG spot (Homing Missile). Only with the two worms eliminated from the game (after they reached their finishes and their team health bar disappear from the game) it will be a valid replay for the challenge.

All the 24 stages available on a big sign of the map must be completed (check TUS scheme page for a replay).

The fastest valid gameplay time will be the winner of the challenge. The time will be counted right after the two worms be placed on their corresponding start (when the very first turn starts running) and will be ended when the Driver worm be ploped 2 times in-a-row, when it touches the water on the second plop (officially eliminated from the game).

Challenge #796, DFW Challenge
« on: November 01, 2022, 02:51 AM »
This is my first TUS challenge that actually sbs participated on the project. I would like to invite players to play Drive for Weapons. There's a replay on the TUS DFW scheme page demonstrating how it should be played.

I would like to say thanks to all players that participated on the testings of DFW and the ones that worked on other things about this scheme.

I would like to remind that DFW is a scheme that can be played up to 6 players in WormNET.

Ok, I forgot to say that DFW City is a medium to difficult map, not easy for sure. Good to see you found the replay, I realized that the replay I put on TUS scheme page has a mistake of mine (I played with the Stoned worm in the end). I'll update the replay when I arrive home. There's still a replay on the DFW wiki article of the old prototype map, that can help too.

Alright, I played high to make a very didactic replay. Now I submited it as a record here. 22 minutes in total. Now the replay has no mistakes. I will upload this replay on the TUS scheme page, since it is didactic.

Maybe I will play a good run later to turn it to a real record.

I'm using this calculator to release the points in the minute format (lol):

Really love the artwork of the map and the challenge idea itself!  :-*

Thanks, I will like to see people's records. I'm sure sbs will too.

That Playback time in replay: is hell, nobody know what type there and with which format for save replay.

Scheme ported to 3.7.2.1+rubberworm, check if it is correct. I set all manually as I see it on TUS scheme preview. Who want play on 3.7.2.1, extract scheme from my replay. (only thing which I do not set is "worm select do not cancel seat time", because I do not know where. I think, it can be done with teststuff only)
I play without look at replay before, so if I did something wrong... Only hint was that animated gif.

@Admin: Please delete my replay with time 36.1, I did big mistake there. (roping from hospital)

edit: replay was deleted yet, so I will post 3.7 scheme later.

I just checked your record and I must say congratulations, since you thought on a different way to make the GG, a shortcut we didn't plan (and we tested several things for long time).

Yes, the way up by left wall from nana glitch area is almost impossible, since sbs used dotted wall technique to avoid problems on the map, such as driver being stuck there. However, we do realized there's another way to get there, that is ultra hard, we tested several times and never made it correctly: using rope + super banana to explode the worm to the GG spot.

Your idea of using only dynamites and not bat + dyna on the boat sbs already mastered, he discovered a fast way to do that part, but it's not easy anyway.

About going back Home from the path on the right (that has a forbidden sign), I initially wanted to let players choose one of the sides to go back, but I think the church path (the correct) is a new terrain to Driver explore and adding rope on the forbidden path could potencially confuse players with so many weapon sprites. The church side has no weapon sprites, that's why the free rope is by that side only, because on the original map I filled the floor with rope sprites thinking on driver only, but sbs thought that too many sprites would polute the map and confuse players, since someone could think stoned could rope down.

And yes, you committed some cows during the replay, you used rope from the hospital, went to the wrong path with rope and also didn't follow the author's original route to plop the Driver, so you didn't follow all the 24 stages to complete challenge, as stated on the rules:

Quote
All the 24 stages available on a big sign of the map must be completed

I'm still talking with sbs to see what he thinks, but I think your replay will not be considered valid. However, I do apreciate your attempt and you made some creative moves there, I would consider your run as a separate category "different route from author's intentions". Even on this category, there's still the rope from hospital cow that you mentioned.

EDIT: ah, now I removed the necessity of adding the time of the replay to upload. I'll do this myself. I know it's complicated by my own experience. And, by the way. I would apreciate if you try another time with correct gameplay. I don't mind about your scheme, I think. But you should really update your game lol. I'm fan of RubberWorm, though and I know there are some things from RW that are different in 3.8.

EDIT 2: There are some possible problems on your 3.7 RW scheme:

1) Wind bias is not zero
2) No auto-retreat time for animals and super nana
3) Continuous flames through turns
4) Select worm broken in Sudden Death (you could set no SD, to avoid this)
5) select worm and hot-seat time could be different

And maybe other settings. All of these settings shouldn't interfere on gameplay so much, the biggest problem would be wind bias I think.

Now I noticed you released a new record with shorter playtime. Now there's no cow except for the different route for the GG. That replay could be considered a different category as I said, but not valid for this challenge. We could fix the map by expanding the transparent area on the sides to avoid your GG method too.

I apreciated your attempt, I enjoyed watching you playing. I think you could upload (or I could) this replay to TUS as I made with Sonic Boom Race challenge that Kirill created, here.

I might consider your record as a separate category, but since TUS 2.0 is not cappable to do that yet, I could do in an indirect way.

sbs said he knows a method even faster than jet going out of bounds to plop Driver, this one:

And to avoid this method there's nothing that could be done, I think. Anyway, the replay will not be valid for the main category.

Never forget Rope Race for Dummies by DarkOne: http://d1.worms2d.info/looking2.htm

EDIT: Would you shortcut the GG on this map by going from start to finish in 2 seconds? The author of the map put an arrow to go to the right, not directly to the end of the game. Why would someone play on this map to go to the finish in 2 seconds?
https://www.tus-wa.com/maps/map-19490/

There are several parts on our DFW map that the driver or the stoned can plop twice before even getting to the hospital...

Only instructions I has was on the map+saw poster gif. On the end, I though, if there was jetpack+homing missile icon, I may use jetpack to water and release homing missile which will hit worm right when respawn to plop second time. But I do not know why, but after release missile I was not able to command worm anymore, it fly itself to left (was not my plan). I can not cancel jetpack for fall as I wanted, I can not navigate to fly to other way... keyboard stop answering after launch missile, weird bug (was same in both attempts). And there was nothing written about petrol to driver, only to plop stoned.

Okay, so I am disqualified, well, well... anyway it was fun.  ;D

P.S. I do not get it how move worm by baseball bat+dynamite to hospital.

Well, maybe we could have written a better explanation on map, showing the intended way to plop the worm which is a hard part of the map. It really requires players to think how to do it. And you thought on another solution to end the game using jet pack and the homing missiles. So I'll create a category for different routes of the map that were not intended. I'll save your replay and accept other replays like this and I will create a zip file in the end of the challenge with all the replays from that category and upload this zip file with the correct timings to TUS. I'll put the link on the comments of this challenge to people watch them if they like.

Since you were the first to play the challenge and your gameplay is nice with an alternative GG, I'll keep your replay on the list temporarily, until other runs by people be uploaded.

I realize now that you cannot watch my didactic walkthrough replay, because you have an older WA version. That's why you played so differently. So, I'm offering you the steam or the gog version of WA as a gift (during the sale). Would accept to update the game for free as a gift?

About Baseball Bat + Dynamite part on the boat, it's simple: you put a dynamite first and when it reaches 1 second, use baseball bat to combine the powers to throw the worm further than usual, when the dynamite is about to explode. It's easier than the way you did using only dynamites in a mid-air combo.

About the GG, I would make a gif to show to you how to pass that part, but I have no internet at home right now due to technical issues, so I can't make the gif so soon, but I will explain to you by text:

First you throw the petrol on the "falling" blooming branch, then you jump two times to jet pack, use the jet pack (24 fuel) circling around that flaming branch, avoiding getting hit by the flames, then you land on the Homing Missile flag and use it from ground to make it hit the flaming branch from behind, this will push the petrol flames to Driver, making it plop twice in a row. All I said must be done in one turn, something that is easier to make using v3.7 with RubberWorm, because the flames will last for more turns (in 3.8 we set the scheme to make the flames disappear every turn).

I can not cancel jetpack for fall as I wanted, I can not navigate to fly to other way... keyboard stop answering after launch missile, weird bug (was same in both attempts).

About this "bug" you mentioned, I didn't understand so well on the first read, but now reading again, I realized that this is not a bug lol. It's because the RubberWorm feature WDCA - Weapons Don't Change Automatically is on. So, when you fire the missile, the missile is selected again automatically, requiring you to click or change the weapon first to be able to control jet pack properly.

If you managed to plop the worm twice in a row by the missile exploding driver on the GG spot the way you said, it would be a beautiful end, and probably more difficult to execute than the intended way. I would have to think if I would consider an official replay, but I would probably add as a separate category too. But it would be another way to make the GG on it's correct spot with the correct weapons. Maybe it would be a valid end. IDK.

Okay, so now I am on 3.8.1  ;D Actually my record is 22:06 (00:06.16 to 22:12.16), and I will made better next days, I did a lot of mistakes which wasting time. When I want go faster, then I go even slower than usually.

Jetpack bug okay, I forgot... I could change weapon to take control back.

Edit: new record, 17:32  :D  (but still a lot of things which I can do better)
Edit2: new record: 13:23 (7.9 to 13:30.94). It is better ride slower and precisely aiming, instead of firing as Rambo and wish about it will hit what it have.
And record with even 48 seconds better time could be...  but I accidentally select on the end pigeon instead of homing missile...  :o >:(  :'(   (cry smile evidently do not work)
