I'm mostly lurking here, are you going to implement shopper rules natively in WMD? Nowadays you need to tell people when they need to skip turn or that they need to shot weapons form rope when possible.

It would be highly difficult to implement rules for various schemes natively. The rules are going to have to be transmitted as they are in W:A... by telling others.

It is our responsibility as old school players to make sure that the newbies are:

1. aware of the rules
2. adhere to the rules
3. understand why there are rules to begin with

The community for the newer games is very dismissive whenever I mention rules. They believe that there should be no rules whatsoever for any scheme and that by trying to implement rules, I (or whoever) am being controlling, narcissistic (that doesn't even make sense), and a general pain in the ass.

With W.M.D. we are going to have to look at ourselves as teachers, role models, and admins, otherwise the community is going to suck. I feel that the online component of W.M.D. both in-game and in the lobby is going to be exponentially better than the games released post-WWP. As long as we have a WormNET type environment with a global chat lobby, it shouldn't be a problem steering the community in the right direction. We just have to be proactive about it, and if people want to be jerks and not listen, we can 'encourage' them to utterly destroying them online. I am prone to listen to someone who is clearly better than me.

We still don't have any info regarding the server system for W.M.D. yet, but with all of the people begging for a global chat lobby, I can only assume that it will feature one. I don't really care if we have separate channels like PartyTime and RopersHeaven (does anyone even use those anymore?) as long as we have a main one. Separate channels would be nice, because who knows what might happen, but a global chat lobby is a MUST for W.M.D. to be a success. A matchmaking system is terrible for Worms, and should have never been implemented.

Hey,

It's great to see your passionate about welcoming in the new community that will come with the release of Worms W.M.D.

Just as a heads up -

- There are no 'official' rules outside of physical scheme sets that effect game load-outs etc and our terms and conditions that launch with the game.

- If you want to run your own custom lobby then yes, you can ask people play a set way - but there is not a right/wrong way to play outside of a prearranged competitive match/tournament with agreed rules for the competitors.

The nearest comparison to this is the 'Dark Souls' community and the 'PvP Culture' they have created. Yes hardcore players within that sub-culture will adhere to it, but most won't/don't - they just play the game how they want within the confines that the game itself has presented them with.

We are actively looking for Role Models within the community for various reasons that will come apparent post launch.

Jonno, if we are talking about a custom scheme, or a typical default scheme that doesn't have any rules, then you're absolutely right. However, if we are talking about a scheme that already has a rule set, then the rules need to be known and adhered to. Newbie example: Tons of n00bs like to play shopper. Well, in shopper there are 3 rules:

1. CBA (Crate before attack - you must collect at least 1 crate before attacking.)
2. AFR (You must attack from the rope if at all possible. Sometimes you will get a weapon that can't be used from the rope, and that's the only exception.)
3. KTL (Kill the leader. Attack whoever is in 1st place, and if you are in 1st, you attack 2nd place.)

So while these rules aren't hard-coded into the game, they still need to be known and adhered to for the reasons that they were introduced in the first place - namely, gameplay balancing. There's lots of default schemes that don't really have any rules attached to them, and that's fine. However, I think a lot of user-created schemes are going to quickly be imported to WMD, so those players need to know what's up, so we don't have a chaotic mess of n00bs basically ruining everything.

It's not like updates for old-ass computer games are trending stories on Facebook, lol.

This is called reviving - something that is really old is getting updates. Everyone would go nuts, cuz they wouldn't think that such of an old title will still get attention.

I think that you overestimate how much the general public gives a crap about Worms.

Even if we did see this mythical 4.0 patch come to be, how would anyone hear about it? It's not like Team17 is going to advertise for it. How many of you know Chinese or Korean?

I like how the most recently-posted topic here was from like 7 months ago.

W:A is dead.

has anyone tested the corsair k65?

I have a Corsair Vengeance K70 and it is fantastic. Cherry MX Red switches, and looks sexy in the dark due to the backlighting. The only negative about it is that I seem to be less able to "flagpole" on demand vs. before I got it... I played on a cheap piece of shit Dell kb for years before getting my Corsair. I dunno if it is the keyboard or just my rusty fingers, but flagpole-ing definitely feels like it is harder to do than it was before. (Like when I am in a rope race and want to extend upwards through a narrow climb.) I am fairly certain that it is me and not the kb though.

I am kinda surprised that nobody has directly brought up insects as food yet.

Out of curiosity, what 10% of consoles aren't overpriced? I can't think of any.

I'm fairly sure that he was talking about those NES games.

Why would you pay for NES games on Steam when you can just download an emulator and like every ROM ever? Aside from ethical concerns, that is..

Anyway, I'm sure that I could make PC gaming as convenient as console gaming with a little investment. If I had the cash to build a nice PC and get a quality 4k monitor, I'd probably never touch my PS4 again. For now I'm happy with a mix of both, but in the future I'm probably not going to buy another console.

Even if it were released with native Japanese support, I doubt that we would see a huge influx of Japanese gamers. W:A is getting really old, guys. I know I don't have to tell anyone this, but as a Japanese person, would you be tempted to play a nearly 20 year old PC game that has little to no following in Japan, the mecca of gaming?

I think that we would have more luck bringing in South Korean and Chinese players, personally. India would also be huge, I think. Even if we did add language support though, how would these people be made aware of it? It's not like updates for old-ass computer games are trending stories on Facebook, lol.

Old school players becoming inactive and fading away.

A lobby full of people on Snooper.

A relative lack of North American players compared to back in the day.

"Off days" where I can't hit anything with a zook or nade.

Falling in a rope race.

Crate luck.

People who won't play games unless it's for some sort of rank or points.

None here has even quoted Trainspotting? Shame on you!

Good flick, but not even close to my favorite. The sequel should be interesting.

I am a movie junkie, with favorites going back to the 60's, but my favorite overall:

Amélie

It has a fantastic score, the cinematography and use of color is perfect, the story is cute and awkward and uplifting, the main character (Tautou) is a babe, it has a wonderful, happy ending that will make you feel good, etc.

I can think of tons of great films, but this one takes the cake.

I also love films by directors such as David Lynch, Roman Pulanski, Gregg Araki, Woody Allen, Gaspar Noe, Richard Linklater, Wes Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Tim Burton, John Hughes, Luc Besson, Andrei Tarkovsky, James Cameron, etc.

The people saying that one needs to eat meat to be an elite athlete are simply wrong. As someone has already pointed out, there are so many supplements these days that give you everything that meat would deliver, minus the moral quandary. Between a sensible plant-based diet and supplements, you're literally not missing out on anything aside from the deliciousness of meat.

I personally eat whatever. I try to keep it mostly healthy though. (If only they could make a 0 calorie beer... or maybe I should just start dosing myself with GHB? lol) I've had many vegetarian / vegan friends and when it comes to sustenance, I really like convenience. Being a vegan is a huge pain in the ass.

I personally find factory farms disgusting and morally wrong, and I can't even bear to watch a video of what goes on in there, but realistically speaking, it's difficult and expensive to find ethically grown and slaughtered meat products in many areas. (Some would argue that there's no such thing as ethical meat products...) I could easily be a vegetarian or a vegan if someone prepared all of my meals for me and did my shopping, but when I'm driving around stoned, I'm not thinking of ethics when I pull into a Taco Bell and order a burrito.

I see nothing morally wrong with eating fish / seafood... plus, fish is one of my favorite foods and I couldn't see myself not eating 'em. Here in Missouri a lot of people have man-made ponds on their property that they stock with fish, which I think is a great idea. We need more private stocks and fish farms in general. People should really lay off the beef because of the environmental factors involved. Beef production is hell on the environment. Look at what is happening to the rainforests in South America... if we lose those rainforests, the whole planet is f@#!ed. Pork production is pretty bad (and disgusting) but the environmental impact is nowhere close to that of beef production.
