Other worms games / Re: Opinion on Worms games other than WA...
« on: April 23, 2016, 03:26 PM »
My list will only include the 2D/2.5D Worms games, ranked in order of favorite to least favorite.

1. Worms: Armageddon (for obvious reasons that don't need explaining)
2. Worms World Party (because it's nearly identical to W:A)
3. Worms 2 (because of the super customization and really fun ninja rope)
4. Worms Revolution (classes, dynamic water, interesting terrain themes and music)
5. Worms Clan Wars (improved class balance vs. Revolution, but much more boring-looking terrain themes, and the clanner function sucks anyway)
6. Worms Reloaded (beautiful to look at, but mostly awful to play... but it was the first with the sentry gun, and also features lots of other awesome weapons and utilities, some of which haven't been in any other game yet)
7. Worms 1 (it was the original but not much else can be said about this one)

Other worms games / Re: Worms Battlegrounds PS4

Don't listen to the naysayers, the game is excellent. It's vastly different than W:A of course, but still very much worth purchasing and playing.

Other worms games / Re: Worms Clan wars
« on: April 23, 2016, 03:14 PM »
Here's the problem(s) with Clan Wars:

1. There is only one ranked clanner scheme (aside from forts, I think), and it totally sucks.
2. The rankings system is trash. Simple wins vs. losses. Whatever clan plays the most is "the best."
3. CW for PC is basically dead already. This is because Team17 divided the community between PC, Mac, and consoles. Eventually people got tired of looking for matches and quit playing the game. The PS4 version (Battlegrounds) is actually pretty active!

Walrus, do you own Clan Wars or Battlegrounds? It's really not trash at all. I just think you're unwilling to give it a fair shot. It's actually really entertaining.

Other worms games / Re: Team17 has announced Worms WMD
« on: April 23, 2016, 03:10 PM »
I have been in direct communication with Team17 staff for quite some time now. Allow me to drop some facts about W.M.D. that might change some peoples' minds about the game:

1. The are seriously listening to the community this time around in terms of features and gameplay ideas. I know this to be 100% true from personal experience.

2. The WMD ninja rope is supposed to be identical to the W:A rope. I've seen plenty of gameplay footage, and based upon what I've seen, it looks the same to my eyes. (Keep in mind that most videos showing gameplay footage feature players using a controller.

3. For the first time since WWP, worms will be able to occupy the same space as another worm. Rope knocking is also confirmed to work properly.

4. The game is going to be cross-play compatible with basically every system. PC, Mac, Xbox One, PS4. Of course the PC players are going to have a huge advantage over the
console players, but this is great news because unlike with the past few Worms titles, the community will not be divided.

5. They are back to 6 teams with a max of 8 worms per, per match. Every game since Reloaded has had a max of 4 teams.

6. The item and weapon count for the game is supposed to be over 80, which is the biggest number yet. The weapons screens we have seen thus far are incomplete.

7. A lot of features and new weapons haven't even been announced yet.

8. The game will feature official Team17 events and whatnot.

9. The game will only launch with 6 themes, but each of the themes is hand-drawn and feature modular 'pieces' of map, and when the map generator generates a map, it is capable of making beautiful random maps that look like they're hand-made. Also, the game *will* be supporting custom map importing. :) No word yet on maximum map dimensions, but they have listened to us and are providing that feature.

10. It is a possibility that they will allow players to add bot teams for online multiplayer.

11. F-keys will be fully customizable.

12. Teams are no longer tied to profiles.

13. Only one player per computer/system for online matches... which I don't see as a huge issue anyway since most people who add 2 teams are lying anyway.

14. 60 FPS animations.

15. Vehicles, of course. In addition to the tank and helicopter there are others that haven't been revealed yet. Vehicles can be hijacked, and if you get caught in one when it takes enough damage to blow up, it does massive damage.

16. Buildings. You can only see inside of a building if your active worm is inside of the building. This will allow for some sneaky new game play.

17. Mounted weapons. On the terrain there will be mounted weapons that you can use like machine guns, sniper rifles, etc.

I don't want to get overly excited, but this could be the Worms game we've been waiting for. All of the gameplay footage thus far is beta and Team17 is actively listening to the community. They have stated that they made WMD specifically because most worms players say that W:A is the best of the series. I'm going to buy it regardless of whether the rope is 100% identical. All of the Worms games are good in their own way, and I've found that if you don't like one at first, it WILL grow on you.

I personally hope that WMD is the bomb and that lots of W:A players migrate over. We need more old schoolers to play the newer games because I f@#!ing dominate and I need competition. :)

Other worms games / Re: Worms Clan wars
« on: April 23, 2016, 02:40 PM »
I am one of the few Worms players who actively plays / played all of the Worms titles. Clan Wars / Battlegrounds is actually a very good game once you recover from your initial "wtf?" shock factor, which isn't as much of a shock if you played Revolution as well. Yeah, the rope is vastly different in CW/BG/Rev, but it's still pretty usable once you get the hang of it. The 2.5D nature of the game also causes some issues with perspective and whatnot, but you get used to it. The game actually has some awesome features...

1. Worms 'classes' - being able to choose from soldier, heavy, scientist and scout worms allows players to customize their play style and makes matches a bit more dynamic
2. Dynamic water - a great addition to the series that adds another layer of depth
3. Physics objects - these aren't implemented perfectly by any means when playing online (they show more variety / purpose in the campaign modes), but still fun nonetheless

If you ask me, Clan Wars is the best of the newer-gen Worms titles, and Reloaded is the worst. Reloaded has a beautiful aesthetic, but the core mechanics are just trash, which is sad. The rope is also retarded, especially on the console versions.

I'd like to see in-game integrated voice chat, a la Steam where it was push-to-talk. Voice chat should be configurable between general chat and team chat, of course.

There are far too many points to touch upon, but there really is no way to quantify who was the best at this or that... like people have mentioned already, there were FAR more players back then, not to mention this was well before TUS was basically the only relevant Worms-related site. I see that Avi is still being Avi, and will probably always continue to be the same troll with an inflated sense of skill and worth.

Furthermore, what I do not understand is why so many people who don't even really play this game anymore spend so much time chatting it up in the forums. You have time to get into thread debates, but not play? ffs...

This catty behavior is precisely why I don't get involved with TUS, or play leagues, or even really do clanners aside from the once-in-a-blue-moon match anymore. W:A was a lot more fun 'back in the day' when people played for fun, made friends, and attempted to show off their skills rather than to rack up a record that ultimately doesn't mean anything at all except to the relative handful of people who give a crap. A lot of better players these days basically don't even play matches unless it's for a league of some sort. I've come and gone from W:A many times and just came back again recently after a long break and it seems like every time I come back, the community is more ridiculous, self-righteous, and and troll-like.

I personally wish that TUS was a community only rather than a league system because it would force people to get back to the roots of what made W:A great in the earlier years. This whole thread perfectly encapsulates why I and many other old school players are reluctant to be a part of the "community" anymore. Ya'll sound like a bunch of old women.

TTRR definitely takes the most skill. (Although map familiarity has can make a huge difference between similarly-skilled players.) You either win or you lose, and one second can make all the difference. BNG does take skill, but even a relative newbie can still drop their opponent's HP bar quite a bit before the match is over. The terrain and placement are also never identical in BNG games, easily giving one person a decided advantage if they manage to get first dibs on placement. All schemes require some degree of skill; however, when you compare the learning curves of proficient roping and proficient shot-making, it's really a no-brainer. TTRR is definitely more difficult.

TUS Discussion / Re: Underinformed community

^

All of the above (the entire thread) is exactly why I do not participate in leagues, cups, clans, tournaments, or anything else "official" anymore. Ever since I stopped giving a rat's ass about rankings or community credibility, my enjoyment of W:A has increased tremendously. Granted, it's still not as fun as it used to be (sorry, the community was a lot more fun 'back in the day'), but I still have a lot of fun ACTIVELY playing the game and improving my skills rather than involving myself with this malarky.

Volrin. 'nuff said.

I did learn a lot from MDK, TheSheriff, and Shady as well. Volrin was by far the most influential, and best.

TUS Discussion / Re: rules change request for Hysteria in clanners
« on: March 28, 2011, 07:47 PM »
I haven't bothered replying to any posts in here because:

A) I forgot that I even posted this
B) I rarely log in to TUS
C) I'm too busy most of the time to discuss shit in a forum

I understand the game of Hysteria. I understand that there are no rules. I understand that you can, to a degree, prevent tele/jet "cowing" (or whatever you want to call it.) I understand that there's certain strategies that one must abide by to win.

HOWEVER -

My main point was/is that in my personal opinion, Hysteria is a bullshit scheme for clanners. For funners, it's great.. especially if I am in an impatient mood and don't want to wait around for minutes between turns. Would anyone play a BnA clanner?  ::)

My main issue is that it is commonly accepted by the vast majority of players that using turn advantage via jetpacks and/or teleports is lame, so very few people will allow them in games. Why should clanners be any different? It's not like crates are optional in roper clanners, or straight zooks are allowed in BNG clanners. My whole issue with hysteria as a clan scheme is that it is played differently than what most people accept as "the rules." (Even though, as it has been stated, there are no 'official' rules.)

I knew when posting this thread originally that nobody would agree with me, and that's fine. I can't say that I really give a shit about the Worms community anymore (no offense, guys), nor have I for many years. If you don't agree with me, that's fine, but never have I encountered a scheme that is played differently in clanners than it is colloquially known to be played in non-clan games.

Even with using strategies to counteract an enemy using turn advantage, they can still go from getting owned into a victory with a couple lucky turns, especially if mines or easy plops are around. I still think abusing turn advantage is cowardly and gay, and I'm not changing my mind.

TUS Discussion / rules change request for Hysteria in clanners
« on: March 11, 2011, 06:56 PM »
I would like to request that the rules for clanning when it comes to Hysteria should be changed. I think that it is stupid that tele/jet cow is allowed in hyst, when in non-clanner games it is not permitted because it's cheap and lame.. so why should it be allowed in clanners? It also rewards sucky players by letting them use turn advantage instead of old-fashioned BNG skills. It's f@#!ing stupid. All other scheme types are played exactly the same whether it's a funner or a clanner, so why should hysteria be any different? I just lost a clanner to dC because they hid on the bottom + side (just like all noobs do, just launching luck zooks) and it really doesn't make any sense. I own those noobs whenever I play funners, so it really doesn't make any sense to lose in a clanner. The rule needs to be changed asap because hyst rewards cowardly play and lack of skills. If you don't agree, you're retarded.
