Waste of time? Get out of here! How many of you were inspired by WA to learn to upgrade your PC, build a website, learn to script, design digital art, and write (literary) about worms.. and there's much more too. Build comradery anybody? Esprit de corps. That's the good old stuff. WA inspires and continues to do so. If you play the game and take something away from it, then where's the waste?

I remember when Anubis built that one site, community.. thing. Can't remember. But i remember the idea and community behind it. I'm sure i wrote about it somewhere.

HHC and his RR Tourneys.. or something tourneys. Its been a few years. Skunk3, TheWalrus, Thekomodo, and the ideas and experiences they put down. Oh, and Rabbzz something spelling too.

And etc.

Waste of time? No.

TUS Discussion / One Year Later - No Progress

Howdy there fellow Design Crew Folks!

Sorry for no messages or replies. I do want to thank MI for keeping this Design Sub-Forum Alive. It's been quite a busy time with gaining a full-time job, moving twice, getting married, and now buying a home. I look forward to continuing what we starting in the following months. Until then, I thank you for waiting and I can't wait to get back on this hype project of bringing an additional theme to the community.

Until then, see you around.

PS, what's the best way to turn my raw theme material into a theme for TUS? Is there a template I can edit or am I suppose to backwards-dissect the current theme? Thanks.

Sorry mates, I been moving, starting my old job again, and doing lots of business travel. I plan on finishing this design, so please bare with me. I just need to dissect and cut the images into their right dimensions.. unless of course someone else would like to take the reins on that? :-*

Wrong scheme. It was a BNG, not T17.

I also wanted to illustrate that this design can/will allow for alternate themes based on randomness or time/day. See 2nd attachment for example. There is also placement for an additional menu above the top gold-striped line, for an optional (maybe) opt-in, menu for functions of this site that require it (ie, league-->standings/report etc).

And again, the top menu/links are rough. Perhaps we can have it swappable between advanced and basic menu? ???

When time permits, I will try to draft an example of how a top-menu-only system may work.

Those game websites are pretty sleek, fada. Though in this following design, I didn't introduce the top-only navigation/menus. Having the menus on top would help make our job easier ;D, but I can't help but wonder where the shoutbox will go.  :-X Let's not throw the game website (top menu) idea out though.

Encompassing HHC's refined menu from MAD TUS (link) and trying to meet all the other wormy/noob-friendly goals, we have this design that I scatched up from the last. I do believe we will use the Jquery plug-in (link) to help create a good how-to for new comers, but for this visual, it's not present (too early).

We are trying to keep the design simple for right now. With the exception of the site tutorial, we can attempt to tweak and culture the design later.

As always, this is a rough, early design. Nothing is promised to stay intact. All ideas are welcomed. Please provide constructive criticism as to if we should scrap the side navi and adopt a top-only menu, etc , etc.

And if you think it is utter garbage, then say it. :P Perfect may need to hear it.

*edit: If we can, lets try to keep animated graphics to a minimum. The water on the image is just to a filler for now; though it doesn't mean it will be scrapped. And the flags and menu links on the top are optional, yet not necessary needed [there].

Complicated indeed. And the pop up visuals are ideal to get users started, opposed to long lengthy text. it seems easy for MI to implement if we can prepare the text for him.

BTW, I been working a lot lately (New job) and I'm Sry for not replying sooner. I have put a little work towards the dummy PNG file for design. It incorporates HHC's recommendation for link consolidation. I will upload soon. But so you know, the design team is still alive.

I have warning as well. what should I do?
  • Open the "Computer" window
  • Right-click on the drive in question, select Properties
  • Select the "Tools" tab
  • Click "Check now..." under Error-checking
  • Check both options.
*You may ask you to restart. **edit, forgot some steps; fixed.

Also, if you an Intel processor, have you tried disabling Intel SpeedStep and/or C-States in the bios?  If someone already suggested this then nvm, I couldn't find Shy's old thread.

Leagues General / Re: Allrounder leagues results

The first one isn't too nice for default players though. If shopper is picked by the opponent the rope-games outnumber the standard ones; and TTRR is mandatory.

In that respect, I'd personally prefer players to be able to pick any scheme (of any class).

Why do we have these classes btw? To prevent people from picking the same kind of schemes in P/O? IMO they are all quite different. Only the rope-games can be considered as different variations of the same principle (speed roping: TTRR, WxW, Roper). I don't think the classes fix that problem, certainly not the allround1 division.
I second that. Shopper/Team17 is a slap in the face. RR/Roper is a punch in the gut.

Nice input statik, and I can completely relate on the limited time thing.  :D

And np, Conny. Thanks anyway.

MI, can you please remove Conny from the group? (Nothing against you, just trying to keep the group centralized).

Sorry for the misunderstanding, HHC. I tried to write a neutral post, but my words read like a prick. I like the menu consolidation that you did. It is indeed a good start. :)

IMO, I like the side navigation to be the advanced (and organized) menu like you drew up. I also like fada's idea of a simpler menu for new folks. So with the inclusion of the side navi you drew up, perhaps my idea of a simpler menu on the top can be somewhere down the lane of brainstorming.

I don't know what new players like now a days. Things are fragmented with wormkit, project x, and tus-league, and whatever. The fragmentation can be both good and bad, for their respective reasons. The paradox of choice (google it!) talks about how less choices reduces the stress in the prospective customer/client/user. So despite the corny look of the inclusion of a simpler menu, maybe a limited menu can help new members get rolling in the league; and branch off from there.

For the record (coming soon in a post), your revised menu should make the list, if fada is cool with it.

As for the template/theme, I suppose a new template; or a modified one. The animations have to be set at a minimum on the forum and some more worminess wouldn't hurt; there is an art to this.

I g2g for now, but lets talk more about this.  :P

Conny might be a good idea as well. Perhaps he can compose a nice background image, giving the new template a nice touch similar to the team17 website.

It's a good save for that template, but I disagree with this being case closed. There are lots of little things that can be tweaked to please the nooby and advanced audience. Pending fada's opinion, I will continue working slowly on a new theme.

On a side though, I don't have too much time on the weekday to dedicate to this, so its more like a part time / weekend thing for me. I'm not too sure how more coding on the design can help as the site is already very advanced; its up to yal.
